Indy cars, the fastest most dangerous racing machines on Earth. GT sports cars, the fastest most expensive road cars. These two extreme forms of racing are designed to push man and machine to the limits and beyond, these high performance monsters are built for just one purpose, to beat the opposition.
The IndyCar Series is the premier level of American open wheel racing. Every IndyCar is hand built, half a million dollars’ worth of precision engineering. The rules make sure that each driver is given an equal amount of power, every car has a turbocharged 2.65 litre V8 engine. We follow two top young drivers from the Tasman Motorsports IndyCar team, Brazilian André Ribeiro and Mexican Adrián Fernández, competing in the fastest race in the world, the Michigan 500. It’s a race at the Michigan International Speedway that will give one of these drivers the greatest triumph of his career.
IndyCar engines pound out about 900 horsepower, nine times more than a similar sized passenger car engine. The only way of generating such awesome power from such a small engine is to use a turbocharger to force feed its cylinders with air. The principle is similar to that of a jet engine, a turbine system sucks in cold air building up high pressure above the cylinders, this is called the boost pressure.

OMG this show was the reason I got into indycars in 1998. I was taking a physics class at junior college and was completely blown away at what these cars can do. I am Mexican and I was living in So Cal and Long Beach was just several months away. This show will forever be in my heart as the light that started my love for Indycar.

My Gen2 steering wheels appear throughout the first half of this show...nice. I made Adrian's wheel in his condo in San Diego. Andre wasn't afraid to push design. Check out the wings at 26:19s...they're HUGE! By '94, IndyCar had asked me to soften my designs, and I agreed to only give the guys huge back-wings and mute them on the sides...along the circumference. Looking back now, I see things I would do differently today.

+mbas0507 All those crashes we saw on this video at super speedways or shorter ovals would have had the crapwagon Dallaras catching air because they have flat bottoms. They don't have an underwing like Champ Cars did. The underwing keeps the car on the track when suspension or wings fail.

+Quareen Setro Yes my friend F1 is better than Indycar, but you're wrong that they are bigger, Indycars and champars were always at least 30 to 40 cm larger than F1, also champ cars were very very competitive compared to F1, here is the thing : f1 in Montreal Canada 2003 to 2006 were around 5 seconds faster, BUT champ car were almost 400 pounds heavier than F1 cars ! ! , if you note than f1 cars are 2 seconds slower with full tank ( around 120 pounds ) , what could be the real comparison if f1 and champ car were at the same weight ?? good question, will never be answered... just think about it.

Besides that; the Indy/CART have maintained elegant lines in their design...they still look like race-cars. Up until the mid 90's so did the F1 cars, sleek lines and pleasing to the eye...since then, they look like box kites and a ottoman with wheels. They are fast, but they are ugly...as matter of fact; they are OOOGLY!
