This video came just in time as I will be loading up some Hornady 168 grain ELD-M bullets and 168 grain Sierra Tipped Match ( if I can find any in my neck of the woods ) for the first time in my Remington 700 308 Winchester Police Model 26 inch barrel length in a few weeks time . I’ll be sure to try the same method you are using to find a good accurate load . Cheers.

Good timing indeed. Thank you for watching. We will continue this workup and load testing in the next video as well.

Thank you for the video Sir. You’re very thorough in your explanation. Could you tell me please what breed of chronograph you’re using there and how you rate it for accuracy and usability? And also, if you get a harmonic node on target and velocity node that differ greatly in powder charge weight, how do you proceed with your load development? Many thanks, Richie.

One potential problem with the Ladder Test is a sample size of one with each specific load. For example, rounds #2,#5,#9 grouped together... much better than #6,#7,#8 especially in the vertical grouping ...some of this may have been due to natural error inherent in the shooting system. There may be inherent errors in the shooting system that creates "artificial results". For example, why did velocity decrease with an increased powder charge? #1 to #2 2417 down to 2406 fps, loads #7 to #8 2500 down to 2509 fps The decrease in velocity may have been due to natural errors inherent in the reloading and chronograph system. With a ladder test, the natural variation in the shooting system may be expressed by the horizontal dispersion of shots, so for example if shots have a horizontal error of +/- 0.5 inches, the natural vertical error might also be +/- 0.5 inches which could lead to some "artificial results". One potential way to account for the problem of sample size of 1 would be to shoot a ladder test each day for several days to see if the results are consistent and reliable. Looking forward to your next video with 5 shot groups!

Thanks. This is very good information to consider. I think some of the dispersion is due to barrel oscillation but am not sure of it. I think you are going to enjoy the next video. Thank you for watching and posting this good information to consider.

I wonder if viewing the ladder results by superimposing all round impacts on a vertical axis might be informative.

I made this video a few years ago. Are you referring to the reloading check list spreadsheets?
