Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! I have only photographed the reindeer on Dovre three times, since they are so incredibly shy there. The herd I photographed in this video are much less shy and therefore less exposed to disturbance by humans

This VLOG is truly a masterpiece in the way it showcases the beauty, brutality and vulnerability of the landscape and animals - filmed, as always, with great respect for Norwegian nature. You worry about the photographers in the winter storm, celebrate the scenes of the reindeer in the evening light, suffer with the (probably) sick female left behind. The repeated photo sequences are also wonderful and become incredibly powerful, especially where the renunciation of close-ups, rules of thirds or the golden ratio gives the dimensions of the snowy desert additional space. Thank you for your work!

Lovely video and great photos! Nicely done. Do you mind sharing about the preparing for the expedition? (what clothes, where did you camp) and stuff like that? Curious photographer here :)
@TobiasGjerde9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I do not really have too many secrets when it comes to the preparations. I just make sure I have enough food, fuel (for melting snow and boiling water) and warm clothes (four/five layers), as well as a powerbank, a GPS, good shoes for hiking long distances. If you have any concrete questions, I will be happy to give my reply :)

I think he was good in a few days afterwards. I haven't tried that! If I know there's a risk of blisters, I typically like to tape the exposed area

Where are the wolves and other predators to cull the caribou herds like we have in North America.
@TobiasGjerde9 ай бұрын
Good question, Eric! I’m kind of wondering the same… Noway has awful management of large predators, so the goverment keeps their populations at the brink of local extinction. So in this region, I believe there are no large predators - maybe the odd lynx or wolverine taking single individuals here and there. So all culling is done by hunters.
@theflyingdutchman71279 ай бұрын
hi Tobias Too bad the animals are distracted by your presence. that costs them a lot of energy, which they could have used better.
@TobiasGjerde9 ай бұрын
Hi, I’m glad to hear about your concern for the reindeer! We need more people like you! When photographing wildlife, you always pose a risk of disturbing the animals, but the choices you make along the way determine the outcome. On this trip, I took my precautions to minimize disturbance. I do not know if you watched the video, but I never pressured them. And when the large herd I photographed decided to leave (they walked away, they did not run), I left them alone. Additionally, the herd I worked with (the Norefjell-Reinsjøfjell herd) is one of the most tolerant wild herds in all of Norway, as they regularly see people there. This sort of adventure would never be possible for example in Dovre or Rondane, as the reindeer there are much shyer and wilder. So to conclude, I appreciate your concern, but I made calculated desicions to minimize any disturbance.
@theflyingdutchman71279 ай бұрын
@@TobiasGjerde You could see from the behavior and reaction of the reindeer that they did not like your presence very much. maybe save up for a telephoto lens with a longer range, or else just stay away.
@bullenbjork9 ай бұрын
@@theflyingdutchman7127As Tobias stated first your concern is admirable. But, that said I really can't see any signs of disturbing the animals in any part of the video. They seem to be doing all the natural signs of grazing, hierarchy work, no signs of wanting to flee just minding there on business. So in this case your concern is quite miss leading.
@theflyingdutchman71279 ай бұрын
@@bullenbjork If you look at how the reindeer reacted, you can see that she did not appreciate his presence. You have to be very careful if you don't register that.
