I have a patriot it has been my first car, a 13' looking to get a commander for decent price, I know it'll be over 100k miles, but if I get lucky with a good one and I have reliable mechanics, I think I would be ok

The Commander was given classic-era Jeep stylization at a time when most vehicles suffered from bland, rounded designs. A V8 is a V8, Hemi or not. Sadly they'll try to phase these engines out in the next few years entirely. I think the Commander has a lot of potential to win back the hearts of Jeep enthusiasts in the future given that it was only produced for 6 years and is a bit more distinguished than Liberties and Patriots. It shares the spirit of classic Jeeps from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

I love my 5.7 Hemi Commander Overland. Yes it takes 16 spark plugs and yes you have to keep up with things that crop up (starter a couple of weeks ago, that was fun to change). The big thing with it is the QuadraDrive II with ELSD's, that setup is incredible. Still deciding if it needs a 2" lift, but it does look cool ! Thanks for the vids !

Owned for 15 years . very cheap or cheapest to own. Yes changing the starter is a PITA bvut once you know how, it takes 20 minutes. It will take you 4 hours, then you know the magic. I like it. My neighbor changes SUV's every 3 years and costs her 15,000 in depreciation and costs every year.

@dagger4146 10 ай бұрын
@@jviews1 20 minutes in a Hemi Commander ? I don't think so. But if it fails again I will pull the front driveshaft out instead of removing the drivers side fender well. It's going to take you 20 minutes just to jack it up, put it on stands and remove the splash guard.

We’ve had a v6 diesel Commander for over 10 years and have had barely any issues. Granted, it only has 50 thousand miles now but what I love most about it is the smooth engine and easy ride. I think it is fast enough for its size, especially your one. But that’s personally opinion.

Nice Commander. I bought a 2007 Commander 4x4 Sport V6 3.7 in 2015 and it’s amazing. It’s clean. Leather seats no marks. Interior is like new. It has 154,000 miles and purrs like a kitten. I follow the maintenance schedule religiously and log everything. I’ve replaced the backup sensors and the ignition switch per/recall. I will never get rid of it. I did purchase a Cherokee in 2020 but my Commander is my baby girl. Phat Tires 275/60 R17 gives it the look. Stuff that wears is replaced brake pads, bearings , battery. For me regular maintenance = low maintenance. No bolt ones. I did install a tow hitch and driving lamps. You can eat off my engine it’s so clean. No work other than maintenance has been done. Castro Syntec 5w30 + oil filter at the required intervals. It’s a great vehicle. I pull my Bass Boat with it effortlessly and it has never given me a issue that has made me curse it. I replaced the am/fm radio with a full blown in dash entertainment center w/Bluetooth man I love this Commander. Nuff Said.

I absolutly love the commander. It is perfect for my needs. I got my first one back in early 2010 and drove it until early 2015 when he was totaled due to no fault of his or mine. When I was looking for a new vehicle recently, a commander was definitely in the running. So now I have my second one and I still love it. Everything you said about it being slow is completely accurate. It does absolutely everything slow. And gods forbid you want to accelerate up a hill. But, I accept all that for the added interior space. As a single mum regularly traveling to vendor shows or camping trips, I will take all the storage space I can get. I also use it to haul a small horse trailer short distances. I'm not sure how it would do hauling for long hours, but it suits my local needs very well. The first one I had, I don't remember having any major mechanical issues with it. I did need to replace the valves on all 4 tires tho. My current commander needed a complete engine overhaul but I knew that when I purchased it. The previous owners were not good to him. I also replaced the interior door handles (same as you) and have a few other little things that need to get done. But I trust that this jeep will be in my life for many years. They realy are a great vehicle.

Great video bro! It’s about time more people made videos about the Commander. I have an 07’ 3.7L w/ 198,000 miles on mine and it stills runs good. The best thing I ever did was buy this thing by Sawyer Tuning. It connects in between your gas pedal connector( I’m no mechanic by any means so excuse the lack of correct terminology) and has 3 different modes. But it instantly made my Commander a lot quicker than it was. It almost felt like I was driving a new vehicle, no b.s. I think I paid around hundred bucks for it but man it was worth it. I recently got another tuner by the same company that plugs into your obd2 port and so far I’m not too impressed. I haven’t noticed any difference. Do you have the “Transmission Overtemp” issue yet? It’s a pain in the ass. There are random times I’ll get in to go somewhere and my Commander will not start. A light will come on and say “ Transmission Overtemp”. So I’ll have to dick with turning it on and off a few times until it finally starts up. I have searched all over for a solid reason and fix for it and haven’t found one. But beside that happening every now and then it’s a great vehicle. I replaced the front and rear light covers for tinted ones. It makes it look bad ass. I got BF Goodrich T/A K02’s for tires which makes it look tough as hell. But the next thing I’m thinking about doing is picking up a cold air intake like you have on your Commander. It’s a bit pricey at over $400 but I heard a lot of good things about that particular model. Yeah man, I’m happy that you are making videos on the Commander. Thanks!

The device you are talking about only works with the V6 and Hemi because your throttle input is not via a traditional throttle cable, like in my 4.7, it's done through the computer, like most modern cars. I don't have that lag issue that I'm guessing you had before you installed the throttle commander. I have not had the dreaded "Transmission Overtemp" come on or any other check engine light. Hopefully I'll remain code free for as long as possible. Lots more on the Commander coming. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!

@lilliankeller2534
@lilliankeller2534 Жыл бұрын
Okay so I have a 4.7L 4x4 '06 Commander and it started saying transmission over temp too, but only randomly we turn the car off and back in and it goes away.. It would go into limp mode randomly etc. We finally figured out that there was a recall on the 06 Commanders that had to do with the computer. That is located on the passenger side firewall under the hood with 4 wire connectors/harnesses. Typically when it's fixed the computer gets reprogrammed but the reprogramming didn't work on our Jeep. We now need to replace the CPU it still runs and drives just fine but we do plan on replacing the computer ourselves with a plug and play unit. They cost around $650.00 just for the computer so we are saving up for it. But I believe that should fix the problem.

@ExtremeDailyDrivers
@ExtremeDailyDrivers 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for saying that. The Jeep videos really haven't done much view wise and I pretty sure it's because I'm not actually fixing anything in the videos. If you look at any Jeep Commander group on FB you find nothing but people crying about how this is broken or that isn't working. 99% of the videos on the Commander are how to fix something that has broken. People abuse these cars. If it says "Jeep" on it, they think it can do anything. The engineers at Jeep didn't help with some of the lame things they have designed on these vehicles. More to come on Jeep! Thanks for watching!

My driver side door seal, door handles and plastic seat side panel were exactly like yours. I fixed the seat panel myself, ordered three replacement door handle kits and did those, and I'll be checking local junk yards to find a door seal (new ones are $80). I also repaired both skylight shades. The Chrysler "shade engineer" should have used more metal or thicker/stronger plastic to hold those shades. I had a beautiful low mile 2011 VW Touareg TDI Executive that I sold early this year because of the high market value, and then found my black Commander Limited 4.7 on FBM in NC and had it shipped to MI. I've put a fair amount of money into it but I'm really starting to like the vehicle. It's my first Jeep and I'm looking forward to doing some two tracking and light off roading soon -- the kind of things that my Touareg could also do, but it was too nice to risk scratches and anything else like that from rougher use. I'm surprised that I like the Monroe Matic rear shocks, which are a bit bouncy (low rebound damping) but give a nice ride.

My 06 Ltd V8 is now a beater from hell. It's my primary work truck, has 366,000 miles on it and still runs great. The only major parts I've had replaced is the starter (4 times due to oil leaking on it), alternator, and had to replace the radiator twice. I took my 3rd row seating out and tossed it to make more room for work equipment. I bought it new, paid it off in 3 years and now my yearly taxes on it is about $45. (I'm in SC, we pay yearly property taxes on vehicles) When it rains outside, it also rains in the Jeep. I tried unclogging the sunroof water lines and it worked the first few times but no longer does, so I bring a towel and soap for long trips. When I finally lay my beast to rest, a part of me will die too, for all its faults, my Commander has far exceeded its intended usage. Oh, don't get me started talking about all the electrical system problems, but I have now come to terms with it all and I laugh when my headlights go dark on the interstate flying at over 70mph and then it stalls deader than a doornail. I was scared the first 47 times, but I'm getting used to it now.

I love my 2008 Jeep Commander Overland...5.7 Hemi. I bought it new, have 245k miles on it, and it has been the most trouble free car I have owned...and I have owned a lot of cars in my 59 years from Acura, Honda, Mercedes, Ford, Jaguar, Audi, Chevy to you name it. The Hemi has decent acceleration, and great reliability, with not much worse mileage than the 4.7. I have never owned a car past 130k miles ever, except for this Commander because it proved to be so dependable, and reasonably inexpensive to repair to many other brands as they age, especially luxury brands.

Bought an 07 with the 4.7 V8. 95 K miles. Cherry condition. Very happy with it. Purchased as a road trip car since my F 150 is aging and I don't trust it for long trips. My only complaint (besides mileage) is the rear suspension. it jolts going over bad roads. Anything you recommend? Don't want a lift kit. Yes the gas mileage sucks, but what the heck. Had to put a set of tires on it, otherwise, no other repairs. Everything works. Took it on a 3,000 mile road trip and it rode like a luxury chariot.

It'll be interesting to see what adventures you get into in your area. I live in Oregon and we have mountains, rivers and lots of back country to explore. I like watching the TrailRecon and Coyote Works channels. I go for the fast and light method of camping and did not get into the big beast carrying all your stuff with you version that they now call overlanding. I just pack regular camping gear in my 20 year old Highlander and we get the job done going out and finding primitive campsites. Have fun! Just got an 06 limitted like yours and had to replace the steering rack because the v shaped cylinder in the adjustment cup was worn out. After doing research, I found out I could have bought a kit to make the whole suspension like new again. Anyway, the steering rack itself is in great shape it was just that small part that messed things up. I am not in the US so it was hard to find any parts, let alone an actual steering rack for the commander. Ended up finding the exact same one from an 07 commander and am replacing it now. I replaced the bushings so far and got new tires, balanced and aligned and serviced the engine. Got it 2 weeks ago, that's all I've done so far. I got Bridgestone A/T 17 inch on it. I actually LOVE the commander. I can't get over how quiet and comfortable it is. I'm ok with it being slow (at first) I'm not after speed, just comfort and a little bit of power. How am I supposed to use the 4x4 low? Only in tough, muddy situations??

Great videos. Mine is in Northern Michigan,with 197k miles on it.I agree with almost everything you say but for the fun to drive part. No, it isn't a Miata.but take it off road or over landing. Even stock its at the top of its class there, and The things that make it good there make it a bad sports car. I don't think that's a great comparison.also, in the snow its a beast, almost unstoppable unless you high center it. One other thing. I looked very seriously replacing my commander recently due to the gas mileage and the age. Also the fact that it is difficult to work on your. However, when I looked at the commander compared to a lot of mid-size or 3 row SUV's out there now it has many of the features excluding a good infotainment system. When I couple that with excellent off road capability and the fact that it tows like a champion It was very hard to find a 1-1 replacement for Any sort of decent money. The commander is a much better vehicle than people give it credit for in spite some some of its failings. And that's even even given the Fact that it was built during probably one of the worst years for Chrysler and the companies history; coming off getting ravaged by Daimler (assholes) and taken over by cerberus.

@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Looking forward to the video! I'm a bit more temperate I guess WRT cars. I was a Dodge Boy as a kid and for me Chrysler was always the car that ran forever cheaply but the buttons on the interior would all fall off. Kind of like a domestic Volkswagen. But I've had 3 jeeps and an Intrepid that I put over 200K on without any real issues. The AMC 4.0 liter, the Chrysler 318, and (knock on wood) so far the 4.7 have all been inefficient and bulletproof. No trans problems. I beat the hell out of mine. What killed all my cars was rust (bathing them in salt every year sucks). But I sooooo feel you on the difficulty of working on them. As to the Commander, I've done alot of shopping (Explorer, Palisade, Sante Fe, Telluride, Pilot) and like I said it has alot to recommend I keep it around beyond just the murderous car prices nowadays. * 6500lbs towing capacity with the 4.7 (!!!) * An AWD system that's frankly class leading even today with it's low range and diff locks. It's outsanding in the snow and off road. * One of the best roof rack systems I've ever seen * All of the non telematics luxury stuff, which you cover in your videos. * Really linear throttle response from the V8/45RFE (Though I'm told the nag is great too). In test driving alot of the new stuff that sells for SO MUCH you don't get much more than that other than efficiency, and alot less in some key areas like towing if that is important to you. The biggest weakness for me right now is just safety. Being an '07 it isn't up for the small overlap crash test and I have teenage drivers. Oh, and the 3rd row is great. For toddlers.

I just bought a 2010 commander sport. I like it but I don’t love it. It dosent make me want to jump in a take off to Home Depot just for the heck of it. It’s on the verge of making an errand a chore. I do like the way it looks however you are right u get absolutely no attention lol! A little history on my end . 3 cars ago I drove a Range Rover county my favorite . Then Land Rover discovery My only brand new car I’ve ever purchased. First off I was forced to buy a vehicle after a boxed spring fell off a truck on the hiway I front of me and totaled the Range Rover . The next day I bought the Westminster edition Land Rover off the show room floor loaded everything u could get was on this truck. But it wasn’t a Range Rover county. I felt like I was mad at it lol. I keep it 4 years the the pinnacle of all trucks fell into my lap. A G500 I loved the F*** out of this thing I bought it in 2006 I drove it till the year of Covid. Covid changed my financial life. I adapted but one day the engine locked down it lost all compression.. at that point 7k to replace it might aswell been a million dollars . I let it set in my carport for 2 years I walked I learned to take the bus I cabbed I ubered trying to save 7 k. Last week I had to open my eyes and realize I can’t do it. I posted the wagon on Craigslist. It killed me but it was time to let go. I sold it within 8 hours for $10,000 . The commanders look was the only truck I could even feel a sense of my style in . So I bought one $6200. After not driving for 2 years . I actually have no desire to go anywhere in that truck. Lol! For me it’s a point a to point b thing. That’s it. It reminds me of throughout my past when one of my vehicles were being serviced and they give u a loaner. Now I drive a loaner . I own a loaner but no more bus or any of that bs I couldn’t take another day of that. The commander looks one way but it’s deceiving . Everything feels off like the way the key goes into the ignition if your clumsy like me I bang my chin my elbows my forehead already in less than 24 hours . But I’m thankful for my loaner. So for what is it I feel like it has just a hint of whatever it is I e always looked for in a.vehicle maybe because it’s square lol god bless u guess thanks for reading my novella. 👊🏻

I'd skip the V6. It's not enough engine to move a 5000 lbs vehicle. As a result, the owner pushes the engine more and more to get the necessary performance for daily driving causing the engine to wear out prematurely. I don’t really want to do pinch welds since I want to keep it as natural as possible but also make it look just a tad nicer. If the 265/70/r17 are too big without doing a pinch weld mod do you think 255/70/r17 would be a good alternative? That diameter would be 31. Thank you, love how helpful your videos have been!

great review. Now it's late July, do you still have it? I've got a 2006 5.7 limited that i bought used back in 2014 (it had about 108,000 miles on it at that time). It's done well for me, no issues. But i did primarily buy it so I had a way to get to work in snowy weather (here in northwest rural NC you don't see much bad weather, but when it happens it does get crazy). Plus, i only drive it once per week or thereabouts during good weather (because of the gas mileage; i can get 14-15 mpg out of it as long as i don't get on it too hard).

Yep! Still have it and a garage full of parts to install. Lots more coming for the Commander. Thanks for watching.

Very good video and I agree with your conclusions. I also own a 2006 Commander and I'm happy with the vehicle. I do have a question about the vent fan . . . is yours significantly loud and has a "hollow" or echo" sound ? The fan motor runs fine and the temperatures change, but as soon as the fan is turned on, it sounds like I'm inside of a concrete hallway. I've looked as well as I could through the ventilation system and found no obstructions -- not that there isn't one hidden somewhere -- and the air flows freely and doesn't smell like something is dead in there. Just wondering if you have the same or similar experience . . . . Keep up the great videos !

I do not. My fan sounds normal and there is no echo sound. Thanks for watching!

All I hear is about the gas mileage, but consdering how most SUV's are/were back in the 00's and early 10's, I feel like 15-17 mpg really isn't that bad. I had a 2010 Saturn Vue that was consistently 11 mpg city.

If you want great gas mileage don't buy a Jeep! They are fun tho.

Hey man nice video. I Just got a 2006 commander limited over the weekend. Any chance you could kink the door handles? Probably not a suprise but both my fronts are broken and I can't seem to find any under like 80$.

Great videos on the Commander! With the JScan did you set the wheel size to the actual size of the new tyres or did you set it to match actual speed (checking GPS)? I found that setting the correct tyre size in JScan (eg. 31.5" for 265/70/17) the speed is around 5% under the actual speed. So I wonder which way to go.

I picked the correct size via Jscan. From what I have seen from radar guns, it appears to be pretty accurate. It's certainly better than it was. Thanks for watching!

I have a 2007 Commander, any ideas on the middle seats head rests,? they've flipped down and won't secure back in the upright position, different mechanics over here in the UK have been scratching their heads as to the solution.

I bet if you still had the xB and had to choose between the two to do a daily drive I know which one you would pick 9/10 times. That would still be true if mpg was equal between the two!

I've been very unlucky in my short time owning vehicles I was 16 and was getting my first car and stumbled upon a jeep commander near me for sale it was a 2006 3.7l stock it had the garage door opener rear heat and ac heated seats and powered passenger seat my mom was in a rush and told the dealership guy I didn't know anything about vehicles i was livid we ended up getting it for $6000 with 194000 miles drove it home to find out that the engine had no oil the whole time the rings were almost completely gone i didnt have much money but i ended up spending 14k on that jeep i very unfortunately ended up sliding of a dirt road in icy conditions and it was totaled a year later i saw another commander for sale it was listed as a 2008 4.7 limited which was exactly what i wanted i ended up going with my dad this time i drove the hour to get to it to find the dealer lied it was a stock 2007 3.7 no trim or nothing even less features than my old jeep but it was going for $3500 with 145000 miles im young and needed a vehicle so i got it i love the commanders and someday i pray i can have one just like yours also you milage is great in my opinion my old one got 8mpg max.... this one gets 14.1 both highway and city which i was confused about but ehh it could be worse also on my first jeep my transmission was going out so i did a redneck fix i took a 2005 jeep Cherokee TCM put it in then did a fluid change and then overfilled it with some transmax cleaner and to my surprise it worked way better than before i was stuck with only 1st gear originally so overall ive been scammed but i love the commander and will continue to try to have one just like yours

Says the guy posting videos talking about working on his car. Bro, these are Jeeps, they will always have something to work on. I will admit I have a '06 hemi w/ 200k an change. These cars are awesome, but most any vehicle with these amounts of mileage and age will need parts replaced, chances are that's why they're being sold. Granted 5.7's have their own issues (exhaust manifolds & bolts). I went for the 5.7 and have no troubles accelerating uphill or towing. With the mds I can get alright mpg (12-13/16-20) for a V8 so long as I save the power for when I need or want it. I'd say get a 5.7 when it comes to commanders, everything else is underpowered for its size. It can pass anything except a gas station! 😂🥲. Love my big box 4×4. Love the vids, want the stereo, keep posting bro!
