In my days, no one in Iran had even heard of falafel, baba ghanush, or any thing Lebanese or Turkish, much less eating them! We had Italian style cold cuts (Armenian produced). I suspect that is why, they still use Italian soft sandwich rolls instead of the authentic pita bread!!! :-) With all the lavash bread they have in Iran, why the devil don't they use that instead of the mooshy, flavorless Italian rolls??

that's a good point. Iranians use baguettes not Lavash. I think it's just because we are influenced by France and western culture for our fast foods.

@@StreetFoodTourists Yes, the whole business of cold cut meats, complete with a soft roll (not even a crunchy baggette, mind you), was from the 1950s to 1980s. The thing is, the Lebanese and the Syrians use pita bread. The closest thing to that in Iran is lavash and taftan bread, not the Italian rolls.
