I think that she uses the higher (5th Octave) notes in a way that not too many singers do. Most, I feel, sound angry when they belt but Mariah sounds like she’s expressing a desperate emotion each time. I hear it in Dreamlover. It’s a happy song but then at some point it sounds like she’s running out of time to explain herself and she’s emoting more than just excitement
