An excellent video, and thanks to those who shot it. For those who claim that the bikes are "over-restored", all I can add is that any vintage bike that's actually raced can never be called over-restored. During the time these bikes were first raced, the majority were always kept in great, clean shape. Anyone who raced a ratty bike back then made the rest of us very nervous, since those who didn't care for their bikes probably didn't care how they rode. And for those seeing and hearing these bikes for the first time, keep in mind that almost all of them are being "babied" a bit, and kept way below peak power. Back in the day, they were a lot louder and on, and beyond the red line constantly. So, add about 20% more RPM in your mind when listening to them. ;) And finally, despite the cost of having our hearing impaired from racing without mufflers, I truly believe that silencing those wonderful sounds has hurt the popularity and excitement of racing. Racing engines are SUPPOSED to scream. Just cover your ears.

I lol'd at the marshal kicking the piece away and then picking it back up and walking back in the other direction.
@legendbonnie10 жыл бұрын
If he bended over and picked it up where it was laying he would have taken the risk of being run over by the next bike.Better kick it to an out of the way towards a safe place place before retrieving it. Smart road marshal.

Great video. The passeners on the side cars were brave and/or dumb and had to work very hard. Loved the Duccaties, Nortons and Dunlop. These old bikes seemed to hold their own against some of the more modern bikes. The Kawasaki Triples seemed to be pretty much as hot as the semi modern Crotch Rockets. I think I saw a Triumph. Beautiful engines on Nortons and Triumphs.

the popping is caused by long cams and the megaphone exhausts not leanness.
@DwarfTossify10 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to my comment, i wasn't referring to the engine sound itself obviously. But the sound that is "of" from the rest of the noise these old girls make (when the gas is let off it's heard as loud popping)
@Chuckl88110 жыл бұрын
I've got to disagree just a bit. Many vintage bikes owners/racers baby their bikes way more than was done during that bike's "serious era." In the video, only one or two of them are getting on the bubble, let alone on the pipes. If they warmed-up on hot plugs and lean settings, and then switched to cold plugs and went race-rich, as done when they were originally raced, we'd be seeing less popping and lots more Rs.
