Think the problem comes down to trying to do two trainings at once. In reality, everyone knows that turning on a training and then doing something else is not only expected, but as these employees say, encouraged. Just have to keep it in moderation! Also, the reason why the guy with the sunglasses gets the CPEs is because we all know this has nothing to do with learning but simply putting in the time; well, he gave up his day so he gets the credit. (Full disclosure: that would probably be me during in-person trainings. Even going back to my college days, lectures where I can't participate usually put me to sleep. At least during a virtual conference, I can open a separate window and keep that "go to sleep" voice distracted while listening to the lecture.) As for the CPE hours themselves, let's be honest - on the job training, working with a more senior coworker, is a FAR FAR better teacher than sitting in some lecture put on by a random salesman touting their latest product; it is a sales pitch that we suffer through only because they offer "free" CPE. How that is supposed to help me in my career, I still have no idea after all these years of 40 CPE later.

its not just EY who let go of their employees, so that multitasking was just an excuse. They could have just been penalized (performance ratings) but nope, termination.
