I had fun watching you guys going around picking fruits and berries from your yard. I have a tip for you for the banana heart you got there. Peel it all the way to the almost white part of it. Cut it into quarters then boil it (on high heat) til tender. Cool it down and squeeze the water out. Saute it w/ onion and garlic some vinegar and season with salt. Or just add vinegar and salt after you squeezed the water out and you have yourself a salad or pickled banana heart. You can do that with sweet potato leaves too.

If you keep the grass away from the trunks of your trees it will keep whom ever mows your lawn from damaging the trunks and let your trees get more nutrients ... Best to keep grass away from the trunk to the outer drip line ...

Nice backyard. Did you know the cherry hedge fruit have worms in them I’d say most of the time. Unfortunately just like guava- at least the ones I’ve tried. Just thought I would let you know. It really sucks because they’re good and they grow in abundance.

Loved this Video, great tour. I loved the way you explained things to your son and to us as well. If you feel up to it I suggest you make a Lemon Marmalade sometime. I make it when ever I can because it seems to be a hit with my Wife, Mother In-Law, close Family and with my neighbors. Its different yet familiar like Orange Marmalade, kind of a mind bender because you cannot believe how good it is. All you need it 6 or 7 Lemons, I add a couple of Oranges with zest and TSP of ground Ginger to round out the taste; Sugar to your liking. That was cool about the Banana growing out of that stump, had that particular growth fruited last season? You might have found a way to get 2 bunches off 1 tree now.

Here's a tip about fruit trees, you got everything right so far but, you harvest everything same time because, that sends a sign to the tree that you want more if you don't harvest everything then it will not produce much next time around, note trees kind of have feelings.

One question, when do you prune your mango trees? i live in florida too
@EatYourBackyard7 жыл бұрын
I personally think the early spring after any freeze threat is best. It is important to remove wood mass, not just small branches.

Ah okay,I have 1 foot tree, going pretty good,not sure if i should prune it or wait a year for height

I would wait for it to get some height first. Top it where you want it to branch. More branches , more fruit.

What are your recommendations for gardening with the bugs, not using or minimal pesticides. Crop rotation?
@EatYourBackyard Жыл бұрын
I use almost no pesticides other than wasp spray or such. I plant all over, keep things seperated. Sometimes bug wreck stuff, I rarely intervene other than putting neem oil. I do not crop rotate, I continuously augment the soil with chop and drop and bunny manure. Check out my new music channel kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX-QhKmcptiFfq8 called Jedi Jingle Maker.
