I had cataract surgery in 2018 and do believe that the macular pucker is a result of it but doctors cannot confirm that. I could tell that the vision in my right eye had deteriorated some. But had no idea why because there’s an artificial lens in it. I didn’t pick up on the wave but couldn’t read anymore with that eye. I knew my left was compensating but didn’t think a whole lot of it. I just thought maybe I had to have the lens replaced or something. They told me about the macular pucker at my annual and immediately referred me to a retinal specialist. I probably would not have had the surgery if I didn’t read so much. That’s the only time it really bothered me. But I read a lot! Like 2-3 books per week plus all the reading you do as part of life - computer, phone, etc.
This is how my eye looked after eye surgery. It's pretty gross! But not painful.
