From the Indian perspective, this is an excellent development. Let India and Japan have a strategic partnership in defence which should include sale of equipment, transfer of technology, joint manufacture and even joint strategy and tactics. We should operate militarily as close allies. In addition, India should persuade Japan to transfer most of its international manufacturing to India so that India is strengthened vis a vis China. A similar arrangement needs to be worked out trilaterally, between Japan, India and Taiwan, as soon as possible.
@choonhockong82152 жыл бұрын
Japan now is trying to lure India to join force together with US, Uk, Australia to target China. Once Japan becomes a strong military power of the East, Japan will go after India because India now is making inroads into Asean countries. Ww2, India troops under the British were badly brutalised by the then Japanese soldiers. Many overseas Chinese were also brutally killed.
@JohnSmith-vn8dm2 жыл бұрын
No one will transfer technology and manufacturing for free. India needs to provide something back or make its own manufacturing industry more competitive. This is definitely possible, but there should be a long term vision. Can India afford to send naval assets to assist Japan in the Pacific? Or should it focus on privatization and reforming the electricity grid, so it is more attractive to foreign investors? India has to focus on what it wants to offer to the outside world.

Sadly I have observed very strong level of anti-American sentiments among many Indians and a lot of pro-Russian sympathies. I know all the reasons for this. But it doesn’t change the fact that this is so. This will make sharing of technology very difficult not only with the US but also with its close allies. Many advanced and thereby very sensitive technologies are shared among nations closely allied to the U.S. because they have close relationships with very high levels of trust between each other. Frankly, I only see risks for the US, Japan, or any other close allies of the US to share sensitive military technology with India. While every nations must follow their self interest, it’s very clear that many Indians are particularly motivated to show hostility toward the US and such feelings can motivate individuals to betray sensitive secrets to the Russians. So based on the pro-Russian sentiments among many Indians, it is clear that India is not now a nation that can be brought in to share advanced military technologies with the U.S., Japan, or other close allies of the U.S., and may never become a nation that the U.S. and its allies can trust.
@UwUO-OUwU2 жыл бұрын
@@anthonydhan There is nothing Anti- American about what I shared. Its a rational decision to not put everything that concerns you in one basket. And the Japanese people clearly understand this. After all it's Japan & India's mutual decision to work together on issues where they see their interests converge. There is nothing Pro or Anti about anyone specific in India's foreign policy. Everything is Pro-India as our EAM stated in the parliament. India doesn't support Russia's war nor wage any war against anyone. It is India that is suffering because of this bloody war. Energy, Food, Fertilisers all are causing invasion and not to say about the amount of FDI & valuable time that India could have used to transform it's economy. It is exactly why it's time for this war to end through dialogue & diplomacy. So I believe it is a bit unfair and rude to see India through the prism of another nation and to judge it only because it has to take care of 1.4b people. Thank you for a great episode, sir. This is a very important development indeed. We saw similar changes in defence policies in Europe earlier this year after Ukraine's invasion. The culprit was Russia in Europe and is China in Asia. It's also funny that while we, in India, are so concerned about over population, the rest of the world is facing the opposite problem of declining populations. The issue used to be present only in Europe and the US.. But, they fend it off by high immigration from Asia and other regions. The concern now is that even in Asia, China, Japan and South Korea are now facing declining/old populations, with India to follow in another 50-75 years. None of the three are open to immigration to boost their numbers. As the 21st century enfolds and then comes to an end, the population of Asia will stabilize and then decline, while that of Africa will keep rising. It will be interesting to see how this will shape the world.

Its strange to me when I see Indians concerned about overpopulation. To foreigners, especially investors, India's population and reasonable birth rate is actually its greatest strength. Without two children per family, every country faces a declining workforce and an increasing dependency ratio, so India's birth rate is good for its economic future. India's problem has never been its population, but its lack of infrastructure investment due to socialist policies and a bureaucratic maze which has limited foreign FDI. If India is able to liberalize its economic system more like China did, it would be better able to attract foreign private infrastructure investment, which would make its cities livable. Indian governments should also spread out their state capitals to smaller 2nd tier cities so that urban populations aren't all concentrated in areas like Mumbai.

While it is lately prominent, Japan's military has been formidable all along. Their Japan Defense Force is populated with tanks, armored carriers, helicopters, howitzers, extremely advanced unmanned vehicles and electronics, and a powerful navy overweight on destoyers and "helicopter carriers," if no aircraft carriers - an under-the-radar carrier, if you will. Most remarkable to me, almost all of the JDF's materiel is of domestic manufacture - by such familiar names as Mitsubishi, Fuji Heavy Industries and even Toshiba. It's but natural that Japan's expertise in all related technologies be applied to this, and if they dare missiles also, at which they would again excel. Why not? Pax Americana is no more after all.

When you read through the Japanese National Security Strategy document, it speaks about “Universal values” which did originate from Europe in the 18th Century but is fully embraced by Japan and is also enshrined in the founding documents of the UN. This makes Japan a Western nation. These “Universal values” are the ideas that lead to democratic governance and individual freedom. It’s interesting to note that the American National Security document also talks about working with other nations that share values AND wants to work with the US toward tackling the ever increasing security challenges brought by China. Unfortunately, I have observed that many Indians are hostile to these values and appear to admire Putin and even Xi. They seem to mistakenly blame India’s lack of rapid economic development on democracy and openly admire the authoritarian governments of Russia and China. This explains a great deal about India’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. I also understand there are good historical basis for India’s hostility toward the US. So it’s a mistake for the US to believe that India and the West can be allies. I’m not sure that we even share interests other than we happen to share a common foe. Given this, while the Quad has mutual benefits for all four members, there are limits to what can be achieved because India is just not a good partner for the West. So the US should stop its efforts to establish a closer relationship because it seems to be quite counterproductive.

All this is ok but what Japan lacks are good soldiers.The Japanese youth of today is not even a shadow of their predecessors and that is a huge problem.

I am Australian. To what i know from history the japanese did treat indians with respect. As an Australian i think i would fight together with India and japan against the PLA and teach the japanese youth is it about time to stand up for themselves.

Japan has tfr of 1.3 it's aggressive posture can't stay for long
@JohnSmith-vn8dm2 жыл бұрын
This isn't aggressive, its defensive. And China's tfr is around the same as Japan's, yet you see the same aggression on the Indian border. The only difference is that the CCP has better internal propaganda in India than Japan.

I will say what you are too hesitant to say... Japan needs to become less racist and welcome immigration into Japan.

Tanks, fighter planes, ships. Expensive stuff and required huge man power to operate and maintain, and later on more expenses for upgrades. Why not buy some nukes? Lets day 1000 nuclear ballistic missiles and point it at china and north korea and just say be nice to us or else. And nukes are way cheaper than tanks, ships, guns, and fighter planes

Pls no. We Indians are not ready for this kind of talk. We are atleast 50 years early to talk about these things. Security , economy are far more things to focus on.

@@vikas776 absolutely, people want to copy and impose everything western to India while ignoring not all countries economic, social and security situations and neighbours are not call same, every country faces different challenges and different problems and every country has different systems of workings some are authoritarian some are democracy, all these things need to be taken into account and told to every Indian. Bro I want to ask you will india standing in a world get better or opposite after russia/ukraine war and virus in china and what camp India should choose U.S led or should India join russia/china as china is our neighbour first or should we say neutral please explain, what do you want to say?

In a country we're caste system, Dowry, female infanticide etc. are routine in the society

@@vikas776 LQBTQ is acceptable in India. Let's not make something a taboo just because it is accepted in western countries. But same sex marriages, I think we can wait. India is going through cultural change, economic change, Political change and stuff. After a decade when we stabilize, we should definitely legalize same sex marriage. This is not a controversy that we are making it out to be.

Life has always been difficult when lived in the proximity to or under the shadow of threat by big organized bullies. All civized nations faced the dilemma and threat as Japan is facing from China. The Holy Roman Empire had to face the barbaric Huns. Syria in proximity to barbaric Arabs post Islam, Tibet in proximity to Communist China are some examples. India had successive invasions from central Asian barbarians since ancient times . But the unique part is China has become a threat to all its neighbours, though Japan also had a history of belligerance and brutality. History has its full circle in Japan. Japan is again arming itself this time not to fulfill its imperialistic ambition, but to protect itself from the same countries I.e China and Russia ,whom it defeated in early 20th Century, but facing threat from both of them over tiny islands.

Japan taking a step to protect itself is a good step. A step in the right direction. The notion that America will come to protect Japanese interests , I personally believe is unrealistic. The fear that the war will turn into a bigger world war is always a deterrent. The US One china policy even with the Taiwan Relations Act that it has given Taiwan is ambiguous according to me. In India, we have a saying which loosely translated means " God also only helps those who can help themselves ". Not that i am saying US is God 🙂...but China should be wary of Japan's military prowess rather than the US. Only then there will be a status quo maintained. Thank you for the video and information
