A massive blue diamond is up for auction and it’s set to bring in almost $50 million. They call it the De Beers Cullinan Blue diamond, and this glacial stone was awarded the highest possible color grading for a blue diamond, Fancy Vivid Blue. The De Beers Cullinan Blue will be auctioned at Sotheby's Hong Kong in April 2022. Early estimates say someone is going to drop over $48 million dollars to call it their own.

That’s not really fun nor a fact. There’s just so many things wrong about it. You’re talking about the hope diamond. And it’s not in Paris, it’s in Washington DC at the Smithsonian museum of natural history. It was once in the forehead of an Indian idol, the man who stole it was killed by wild dogs. The diamond made its way to France where it became part of the royal jewel collection until the French Revolution when it’s owners Marie Antoinette and Louis the 16th were executed. It then came to London and sold to a wealthy heiress in the US who then mailed it to the Smithsonian. But of all those stories only a few people died.

Anyone who implies that buying something really expensive is bad because you could donate it to something else... has no idea how economics work. But even if we pretend for a sec... what about the families of the many many individuals who had a job created for them because of the diamond? What about the fact that a lot of that same money may end up getting donated anyway by whoever ends up with it? Not to mention that this will have a huge tax which is close to the same thing as a donation in many ways. If I sell something for $100 then that person sells it to 4 new people for $100. That is $500 of money that could have been donated huh even though it is still just the same $100 of value? That way of thinking makes no sense which is why it is weird to see so many people bad enough at thinking to actually believe it.

Honestly. A person isn’t selfish when they want to spend that much on a diamond. It’s their money. And the donations that the parents get will probably get spent on wasteful items. And I think it’s more selfish to want someone to spend their money on something YOU want. 😡

Love how people always preach "It's my money! I worked to afford the thing I wanted so mind your business!"/"What I buy isn't your business, last I checked my wallet isn't yours." But when it comes to something they're not interested in or it's something they themselves they can't afford it's suddenly, "What a selfish person, did they ever think about Everyone Else first??"/"They didn't even think about the OrphAns when buying that thing, what a horrible person." Yes we need more people to pay in for a lot of things, but the thing is Half the people screeching "SELFISH" never put a penny in a donation jar or pretends they suddenly "Don't have any spare change" while on their way to the mall
