my theory is that the pillagers weren't the ones who built it, they were just the first to find it. the dark oak structures and camp sight are just the remnants of an ill fated expedition into the ancient city, the only thing left from the teams that went down there.

I just went into my first ancient city today, completely blind on what I should do to disarm anything, or what to do if a warden shows up. I kinda just stumbled upon it too, by following a cave. I accidentally spawned one warden, and I couldn’t find him because I didn’t have any night vision positions on me. I tried sneaking up a staircase of wool I made because I knew wool helped with sound, he followed behind me and sniffed right on top of me. I had a full on panic attack I used my water bucket to slow him down, I put on my elytra and started flying blind in a cave without echo location. I was chased out of the ancient city by Idk how many wardens. There was so many sounds roars and screeching my heart was pounding so fucking bad because I had a lot of loot on me. I survived, though I might’ve crawled into the corner of my room into the fetal position once the heartbeats ingame stopped jumping my brain.

What me and my brother always do is bridge along the roof of the ancient city all the way up to the portal, then we dig up and make a room with chests, beds, and sometimes a nether portal. Then we stuff everything we have into a chest besides some building blocks and turn up our gamma and run around destroying shriekers and collecting loot. Whenever we find something valuable we go back up to our safe room via stairs and store it away

I have so much fun building devices to annoy the Warden. My favourite is using red stone to make a bell ring over and over. Never thought of using its own Sculk sensors against it with a trapdoor before. Next time I'm in an Ancient City I'll be trying that one.

@8:20 just a side note, I found an Ancient City with a Zombie Spawner directly above it. The bottom of the spawner was open to the city, so Zombies were able to spawn in the location just under the spawner. Just something people should be aware of. though the Biome "Ancient City" won't spawn anything other than the Warden, the area outside of the city, and is NOT Deep Dark, can spawn monsters, so sometimes monsters will wander in. Mining outside of the city can increase the chance of getting monsters in the city.

When it comes to loot, i'd say you completely neglect the sculk itself. You can mine it rapidly with enchanted hoes you find in local loot chests, gives enormous amount of XP and also uncovers ores beneath it, which is significant since diamonds generate with reduced air exposure. Edit: just found out you explain that in another video. Still, worth mentioning here as well.

Mentioning elytra is a big 👎 These cities can be found VERY early on accident. I’ve found many while not even trying during the early game. I won’t have an elytra, but I could definitely try to get a brewing stand going in a reasonable timeframe.

An easy way I loot ancient city’s is if I find one, I make a little room above it, place a bed down and some chests or shulkers. I put all of my stuff n the chests, place down a bed in the room and once your ready make a hole into the ancient city and place a water bucket in the hole to get down and up. Once I do this I can get a good view of the ancient city and just run in naked no fear of loosing any of my hard earned gear, if I find anything good I don’t take it out of the chests and instead come back with an elytra or wool so I can get it back to the room safely. If you happen to die no worries you spawn in the room above the ancient city. If you want to go in the city with some gear I suggest doing everything I said (except for putting ALL your gear in a chests if you want a pickaxe take that) but have a enderpearl staisis chamber in the room and a friend to pull it in case you need to get out. if I helped your welcome

For a while now Minecraft has had pretty basic updates, nothing too major added by Microsoft in the same timeframe and scope that Mojang by themselves were able to do. I haven't really played the game seriously since 1.12 but as of 1.19, with the cave generation and now this new end game location from a veteran player (since 1.2), it's so nice to start a new survival world after so long and explore all the content added. The warden is genuinely terrifying if you come across a deep dark biome while strip mining and you aren't prepared, I love the inspiration for the mob taken from Jeff from Half Life Alyx. Rumors of 1.20 having even crazier stuff has revived my hope in this game getting more frequent quality and filling updates again.

I remember when I started playing Minecraft again after a fair amount of years, and while I was strip mining - because I still like it - I heard something I'd never heard. The music went from happy or atmospheric to dreadful and kinda made me stop in my tracks. "Ancestry" is still one of my top favorite tracks. I’m still having so much trouble with these. I place wool everywhere. The 1% Silence Template bothered me so much I went into creative, TP’d to 5 ancient cities and spent an hour opening chests only to get one. Idk how to approach an area with like 10 shriekers, catalysts, and sensors next to each other. Even if I wool everything the chest sets them off. A 1% chance item in Ancient City chests is so cruel. It legit takes so long sneaking around wooling everything for a cosmetic item. Some of the cities only had like 10 chests.

the guy above just mentioned TNT'ing really difficult areas where they're congested. a trick i've uses is carpet. warden can't spawn on it. so cover every solid block with carpet in a 10,10 area around it and it will either prevent or severely reduce the spawnability of the warden.

Could a Catalyst be used in a mob farm to farm xp? I imagine a drop mob farm would feed a catalyst pretty well. There is a moss farm design that uses 4 stone generators to push new stone into the middle and break the moss for collection.(Bedrock only) I wonder if a similar setup with a catalyst in the center instead of a moss block being bonemealed would work, could piston's push stone in hard enough to break sculk blocks so you can auto farm them with a mob farm?

Yes, you can set a dripstone stalactite near a dungeon, like any mod farm, and farm sculk. I suggest you to check Wattles as he has a tutorial on how to set up the farm.

Can someone please tell me that a warden can’t kill me when strip mining? My mining zone is stick between a ancient city and every direction I go triggers those things that I believe summon him? as long as your outside of the sonic attack range it should be fine. plus skull sensors only pick up near by sounds, stay clear of the skulk best you can and you should be fine.

after you defeat the ender dragon theres a small portal that generates to the side of the main island. throw an ender pearl into it and it'll teleport you to the outer islands where you can find end city's, you can find elytra's as loot in those (specifically in the end ships)

yeah sneaking prevents them picking up sounds from walking. however, don't walk on top of them. they will detect that. also it doesn't prevent other sounds such as eating or switching armor (learned the hard way.)
