I’ve always been so embarrassed when figure skating, it’s my passion. But I started very late, now at the age of 16, I’m just some lanky looking guy that is trying to do singles. I’ve watched your videos for a pretty long time now, thanks for always being so positive and encouraging. If you have any confidence tips, that would be awesome. I really hope that some day I can grow as strong as you and progress to where I’d like to in the sport of figure skating. 😊🌟💕

Ol She did a video where she talked about how it is never too late to learn figure skating. I am an adult learner and re-started my training when I was 29 (3 years ago). Thanks to her video I know not to put myself down. I learned that I shouldn’t really compare myself to other skaters and have to work on improving how I skated yesterday to how well I skate today. Also, I don’t have the typical fairy-body of a figure skater either. So for you, I think it’s cool you can do jumps even if they seem basic or “slow” to you for now. 👍🏼 keep it up!

It's ok man I started at 11 and now 13 am learning double axel so a late starter can definitely learn. Btw. I am a guy
@eatpinkjin11324 жыл бұрын
Hey just a little tip for more confidence: focus on yourself. Sounds simple but it took me long to stop comparing myself to the other kids that are much younger and are doing perfect doubles. After focusing on myself and believing that I can do it, I finally landed my axel and a few doubles! (I started at 15, now I’m almost 18) So just keep going! Do it for yourself and concentrate on what your body is doing! Wish you all the best luck!

I started practicing once a week since January. I can do swizzles, forward crossover and mostly backward crossover. I realized I skipped a lot of basic skills so I found a list of them and started on those. I have most trouble with gliding 2 feet turn, and I know I'll have trouble with 1 foot turn too. It's hard to find and keep my balance.

Okay but like.. SAME! I can’t even go backwards, none the less backward crossovers. I can do swizzles, forward crossovers (with both feet), I can sorta do jumps, still working on those. But my balance is terrible :(

Hello, very nice video! I started a few weeks ago. Currently practicing backward one foot glides on an edge and 3-turns (I can do those perfectly on my left foot but on my right foot I even struggle sometimes with forward edges ): ) and I really enjoyed this video! I wanted to ask wheter you could maybe do a workout routine for figure skaters? I feel like I need more training especially for my legs, specifically for skating, maybe a better balance and more strenght (:

Thank you so much Katie, nice video. Could i ask 2 questions? 1. I realized the power on my right foot is stronger to my let one. So it is hard for me to balance and it is easier to use right foot as activative foot. any suggestion/practice I can do to improve my left foot's strengh and power? 2. i feel it is hard to control my Body center of gravity when doing turn, or any kind of circle, any suggesiton I can control more or any exercise will help? (should i train my core more in gym?) Thank you!

I can't seem to find my balance when doing one-foot glides. Does anyone have any tips? Also amazing video!
@reiiiiisan5 жыл бұрын
My previous skating teacher gave a tip to do off-ice, which is to stand on one foot for as long as you can (practice both right and left) and keep doing that when you've got nothing to do. As time progresses, you'll become more balanced off-ice and you can apply it on ice. Hope I helped 🤗
@makkachin96145 жыл бұрын
Think of shifting your weight. If you want to glide on your left foot, do a 2 foot glide first, shift your weight over your left leg so it's centered over your left foot, so you won't fall back on your right leg. You can even shift your hip a bit, while gliding on the left foot you would lift the right side of your hip a little up so the weight of your body shifts to the left side. Practice a lot, it takes time. At first I couldn't do it not even for a second and now it just works without me having to think about it. And I only started a few weeks ago (:
@heejinkim17725 жыл бұрын
I had issues with this when I first started skating too! A good tip is to raise your free leg's hip just slightly to shift your balance onto the standing foot.

Hi Katie I wondering are you suggest the student in beginer level to have their own shoes or they should stick to rental shoes?
@Onlyonewish1235 жыл бұрын
If you buy your own skates you will progress faster than using rentals. You can buy beginning level skates anywhere from $50-$100. Soooo if you factor in the rental skate cost, how long you plan on skating, and if you want to progress a little faster, than buying might be right for you.
@karimab42415 жыл бұрын
Ros Ong well buying your own skates is better! I’m such a beginner i I’ve skated 2 times and already have my own and there really good! The stiffness of the rental is hard to skate in and it’s not sharp! So buy your own :)
@makkachin96145 жыл бұрын
Buy your own please. For a beginner a Stiffness rating of 30 is perfect, I wouldn't recommend any softer boot.
@emmajacobsen51575 жыл бұрын
Hey Katie! So I'm not exactly a beginner when it comes to figure skating but I wonder if you could help me anyway? The thing is I have the rotation for all my triples but I keep landing on two feet or on my peeks so I like fall forward, my coach always tells me to just lift my left leg but I’m still sorta struggling with it. What do you think I should do? Just keep at it, you see I’m from sweden and here we train in pretty big groups so the coaches usually have a tendency of ignoring some of the skaters (like me) so I’m often left to figure stuff out on my own.

What skates would you recommend for a beginner? I've started using skating as a workout recently and taking a class. I currently rent skates from the rink but I really want to get my own. Anyone have any suggestions?
@tawnyflower-in5yy5 жыл бұрын
alyssa.does.life There are lots of different brands but generally speaking Jackson Mystiques would be a good bet if you have wider feet and Riedell Emeralds/Diamonds if they are narrower. If you are able to go to a pro shop to get fitted they will be able to give you much more specific recommendations
@khobi90945 жыл бұрын
Alyssa.does.life I would personally recommend Edea Overture with a coronation ace blade for begginers! They're not too pricey and won't break the bank, although make sure you get them fitted in store and not ordered online unless you measure in mm. I was running black overture and learning axel 3 months ago. I am now learning double axel, double flip with my new pianos. Deff recommend overture
@tawnyflower-in5yy5 жыл бұрын
Khobi Stephenson Edea Overtures + coro ace would be like $500... o.O maybe it’s not that expensive compared to higher level stuff but I would not call that not too pricey

@rebeccaweinstein65605 жыл бұрын
When doing forward swizzles, your weight should be more towards the back of the blade (middle to back) and when doing backward swizzles, your weight should be more middle to front. Don't lean too far forward at the waist. Maintain good posture and a strong core.
