I was fortunate enough to attend this Distant worlds concert. I'm a Crystal Kay fan. So when they announced she'd be singing this and she stepped out, my wig lopsided. Then the second she started singing, my shit was on the floor.

She just make it another level of this song, I didn't say that Faye Wong version was bad but Crystal articulation is more clear. Both of them were doing great job for this song.

I knew she would be awesome with this song. Every note perfect, plus little ornamentations that were just icing on the cake. I would have never expected that kind of singing from an RnB singer.

I was at this concert in 2011, and I felt the version of Susan Calloway, maybe she didn't sing it from the beginning, because it's not in her vocal cords, but in my opinion, she is the second good at it, because she tries to sing it, in her vocal cords, without to lose the sweet and sad tones. She does some mistakes, but she gives you emotion, and I felt that then. It's my favorite song, I'm very nit-picking about it, but she made me almost cry.

Thanks for the info :) After listening to Faye's song twice now, live and studio versions, I still don't feel anything. I think that FF lovers know the background way better than me and have fond memories about the game/song hence why they feel the emotions. I prefer Crystal's voice but I acknowledge the lack of emotions in this live, so it's not the reason.

I will say what I think about the 4 singers of this song: I find the version singed by Faye Wong, the best one. This is a romantic song, so it's sweet, but it also refers to a sad "story", about Julia and Laguna in the game, so it has some nostalgic note. Faye is the best of the 4 singers, to make you feel this, and she has a particular way to sing this song, hard to copy, hard to sing as she does.

I see this all the time. Who sings the song better. Angela Aki, Faye Wong, Susan Calloway, or Crystal Kay. To be honest, they all sound amazing, and they all have their own ways of singing the song. I will agree on you though, the vocal range for Crystal Kay's version is amazing. I still love Fayes version, but this is a lot better. So @jimmyd23jd, it doesn't matter who sings better. As long as the singers captures the song and the magic of it, that's whats important.

Nice way to put it :) I'm a Crystal Kay fan, but I'm clueless about FF and the original song. I listened to the original song by Faye once but I felt nothing. Probably because I didn't know the background story. And yes I also think that Crystal Kay was too strong and didn't sing in an emotional way.

i think the mic can't pick up her singing well enough which probably makes her sound worse than she really is. but then Faye's rendition of this song is simply too unique for anyone to replicate the depth of the emotions and range of the voice.

Maybe you prefer the voice of kay,and this is another point.The words of this song aren't by case, it's the song Julia composed for Laguna, it says real things about them. Their situation is sweet, but sad too. If you are just curious about this song, you can find online some info about the story of Julia and Laguna, or video scenes here. Julia's daughter, Rinoa, will remember this song her mom did, and it's the most important song of the game, not by case.

You're kidding right? Faye Wong is the original singer, but she's nowhere near Crystal Kay. Crystal Kay has been singing since 4 year old and got a recording deal at 12 years old. One of the best Japanese pop singers out there. Faye Wong isn't even close to touching her vocal ability. I can't wait hear the official recording of this song.

Crystal Kay, instead, she has a great big voice, and I think that's the mistake. She's more accurate than Susan, she sings it more like the original version of Faye, she did also the first part, and it's good, but it's too much technical singing this song, and it lacks of the original feeling it should have and make you feel (sweet and sad).It's not her fault,that's not a good song for her strong vocal cords,and she often has to repress her voice,spoling the song.In particular where she cry out

So, Crystal, try to give at the song power, but it's too much, and it's a bit out of place like this. Susan also gives strenght at the song, but less and she puts in it feelings. So Crystal has the technic, but the song is without feelengs, Susan instead is less technical, but she makes you feel those feelings. That's why I prefer Susan, after Faye. Angela Aki version,please don't let me comment it.I don't like it,too fast and without feeling,plus completely different from the original of Faye.
