Forty years ago. Where does the time go? Forty years ago I went to the 11 AM premier of The Empire Strikes Back in town and I was interviewed briefly. That clip was on YT several years ago but has since disappeared. Ah, memories.

Why did Channel 3 think this format would be competitive against 6 & 10? And who thought Channel 3's big red and white look would attract new viewers?
@TimothyMischka3 жыл бұрын
I think this may have been a temporary look -- this wasn't too long after the infamous "Direct Connection" period -- aka "Disco News" -- which apparently didn't work too well.

@@TimothyMischka True, Direct Connection was a huge flop. But that program had a fantastic theme song. And yes, Eyewitness News changing to patriotic colors did nothing against WPVI & WCAU (they were never the same after Jessica Savitch & Al Meltzer left). I was a loyal viewer of Action News and Live at 5 and I never watched Eyewitness News.

@@teresapflaumer5717 Channel 6 was, and still is, the top-rated station in the Valley.

3:23: I liked where the guy behind Ron accidentally walked through the live broadcast, then jogged across behind him.

Ron Hunter was once on WGR Channel 2 in Buffalo NY. Until he was succeeded by Rich Kellman.

Wasn't this during the period where Maury Povich was a weekday anchor at the station?

I can't be the only one who thinks Ron Hunter looks like Neil Breen...and for those who don't know who *HE* is, I cordially invite you to look him up, you won't be disappointed.

Hi, this 2021 calling. I see your regular gas price is $1.12 a gallon. I just want to let you know it’s now roughly $3.53 a gallon in the Philadelphia area now. You might want to stay where you are. LOL!!!!!

For an anchor, Ron Hunter really must've gotten around. Prior to anchoring weekends on CBS 3 (née NBC 3), he was bringing South Florida the news weeknights on Miami's Newswatch 10 (WPLG), and then transferred to Chicago's NewsCenter 5 (WMAQ) shortly thereafter. But little did he know that as the years wore on, it would all spell total demise for him. As much an epitome of the typical anchorman he was, his attitude and ego claimed otherwise. He kept making less money as he went from market to market, his wife committed suicide in 1990, and even plans for his own TV station were denied-leaving him no choice but to turn to a life of crime afterwards. He died at 70 near Vegas in summer 2008. Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

Ian Sherman he was too honest in how he showed his ego. He was no different than Geraldo, Pat O’Brien, or Tom Brokaw but they had inner conceit that didn’t show till later.

He did NOT turn to a life of crime afterward. The charges against him were dropped in that case where he was accused of stealing food from his neighbor. If you want to know the whole story read the book Courtroom Carnival by S. L. Alexander. This also brings up another point. The media was more than happy to run with this story when he got arrested but did they ever also follow up and report his innocence?

Channel 3 was an NBC, not CBS, affiliate back then in Philadelphia.
