Coase Bargaining (HINDI)

Under certain circumstances, an external cost problem can be resolved through bargaining among the affected parties. Ronald Coase has given the solution which applies to a situation when there is a small number of affected parties and the transaction costs of bargaining are relatively low.

Thanx so much sir for bringing us this lecture actually I was really struggling with the concept. Sir, Actually I had a query and I hope that u could plz may be address this- so for an industry whose pollution treatment cost is say rs.2 lakh and damage to fishermen coz of non installment of this treatment Is rs.1 lakh and under such circumstances if factory has right to pollute how come we derive at a coase solution?? Kyuki yaha pe toh the cost of installing the treatment plant is more than the possible incentive the fishermen can provide (which is rs.1 lac) toh yaha kaise achieve ho payegi apt bargaining as per coase?? Plz help sir 🙏

I appreciate an insightful question. Please note Coase bargain offers a solution on the basis of the abatement associated with per unit of output sacrificed. That is if the industry reduces its output by a certain unit the resultant benefit to other activity will increase. So, when you are installing the pollution treatment plant you need to take into account the cost per unit of output. Still, if Marginal Benefit (social) and Marginal Cost equality does not occur on account of the huge unit cost Coase bargain will not be ineffective.
