Relative Income Hypothesis (English)

This hypothesis by Duesenberry is one of the several post-Keynesian hypotheses advanced to resolve the puzzle presented by the empirical test of Keynesian consumption hypothesis. When tested on time series (long-term) data it gave a proportional function while the cross-section data on family budget produced a function of non-proportionality.

CF will always be less than 45 degree line whether long run or short run. Otherwise it is not in conformity with Keynesian hypothesis as coinciding with 45 degree line means the entire increased income gets spent on consumption.

Sir if current income is greater than the previous peak level of income what would be the relation between apc and mpc either apc equal to mpc or less than mpc?

Please understand the basic principle. Downward resistance in the consumption expenditure as a result of falling income because greater consumption has been enjoyed is one of the factor that, according to relative income hypothesis, explain the non proportionality of consumption function (consumption function not coming from origin). For any non proportional cf if it is linear (straight line) mpc is constant but apc keeps on declining.

Retail price of petrol include union excise duty and states VAT as this item is outside the ambit of GST. If it is costlier in Rajasthan it should be because of of the state tax (GST).

The graff C=bY does not include the "autonomous consumption" which is free from Income.He has drawn the only Consumption function which depend on income level C=bY.

for APC=1 the value of b must also be 1 but you didnt say that the consumption function C=bY has mpc=1.
