Fantastic videos. Was leery about using the groove editor instead of my usual DAW but after watching and working about an hour with your video's I "leveled up" drastically. The efficiency and accuracy is way up..The "show similar grooves" feature is especially handy. Also the masters are incredibly easy to tweak to perfection. Thanks!!!!!!!

08:42 this is inspiring me to create my own beats for songs i'm practicing guitar/bass/vocals to, then save them as midi grooves (and also save the kit preset that goes with it), with a proper name (containing the name of the artist and the song), and then recall it anytime i'm practicing, so that i can use them as flexible deluxe backing tracks. Ex : intro riff to joe satriani's "friends"... Way better to practice this alongside the programmed drum beat than to a metronome... And i programmed the drum beat, tweaked the sound and saved it in less than 5 minutes and will be able to use it anytime i practice from now on.

FYI - At minute 11:30, when you do tap to find, if you already had a filter string you can click "search with current filters" and it will keep all your previously selected filters intact. ;-)

Hey thanks for the video Shawn. As always, great information here. I do have a question about EZbass though. Are there other places where I can find good Midi packs (for bass) other than Toontrack (obviously) and Groove Monkey that you would recommend? I'm a metal/hard rock guy. Thanks in advance.

Another great video, Shawn. I’ll be doing a lot of experimentation today with these Grooves tab ideas. The last tip or so around self-correcting reminds me of reading choose-your-own-adventure books in Jr high and cheating by finding an ending I liked then working backwards to find the story. Haha. It's funny because a sped up polka beat is used so much in metal, hardcore and punk rock, and is definitely in the existing midi grooves. It's just not named "polka" :) It's often called a "skank beat" too, but neither skank or polka will give you anything with the search box if you use the free midi libraries that come with the SDXs... You can find sped up polaka beat by typing "thrash" though. Easier to tap2find it and then tweak it and save it as "polka" i think :)

I notice you have Superior Drummer libraries included in EZDrummer. How do you get them in there? I have SD2 and just got EZD3 and can't figure it out.... Great videos! Thanks for all the help!
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
If they were installed far apart in time from each other they probably are not sharing the same midi/sound directory. It’s been a while since I used SD2. If you know where it’s midi is stored, you could drag it to the ezd3 midi folder, can only guess that would work. With SD3/EZD3 it’s seems automatic.

Great video and advice. Something I have being trying to find, in EZD3 and on the stores midi packs, is a reverse snare. I know there’s a way of creating one with a reverse reverb, but thought I would ask, just in case you have come across one. Looking to recreate the snare style on Billy Squier’s The Stroke. Thanks.
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
Tough one out of the box. Superior Drummer does this natively. Though you have to tweak the timing. So I'd have to say similar to EZD3, except you need a OneShot sound loaded into your snare. With EZ, it might be an equal effort to just export a snare sound, reverse it in your DAW, and have a snare audio track and manually place them. Off the top of my head that's what I have. Never thought about optimizing a workflow for it. Hmmm. In EZD3. You could finish the song with regular snare... Swap it out last minute with a OneShot.... then in Grid editor select the snare for your entire song and use the nudge command until it lines up perfect. That will do it. Search One Shots on my channel home page if you're not sure what they are in EZ.

"on the stores midi packs" A reverse snare is not something that is played... There is no way for a drummer to play a reverse snare hit :) It is a production effect, so you won't find in a midi pack :)

Great Tutorial! One thing Im having a hard time doing in EZ Drummer is getting a good Shaker Groove added to a current drum beat that matches the swing of the song....same with High Hat Riffing...I find it hard to build a HH groove that matches the song....Any Tips?
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
Possibly... Highlight your shaker pattern in the Grid Editor. Under the Timing Button/Menu, try adding swing if it is indeed Swing (triplet feel) you're looking for.

I’m on the edge of upgrading from EZDrummer 2 to 3. I use the Latin pack a lot for conga/samba patterns. Other than cymbal swells and one shot claps, I’d say I use MT Audio Rock Drums about 80-90% of the time because it’s so easy to use and the patterns are consistent throughout phrases. I find the patterns in EZD 2 just too busy, if you know what I mean. I end up using a midi editor to create custom beats. I’m hoping EZD 3 is better in this regard especially for ballads.
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
It’s not my forte. But have you tried the Edit Play Style feature on these busy grooves.

Hi Shawn, I noticed a problem in an old song I´ve created over one year ago. I used EZD2 in that song. But now, when I open that song EZD3 comes up (and that is right for me, because I installed (updated) it), the song structure (time line with the groove parts) is empty - didn´t know why? Is it possible to run EZD2 and EZD3 in parallel? I don´t think so, because the .dll´s are named the same...
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
It is possible. EZD3 is a VST3.
@ringi1970 Жыл бұрын
@@ShootieSchool ah that is good hint. I´ll try that and only install EZD2 as VST2.4
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
There's no conflict at all. Just install both EZD2/3 normally and they both work. EZ2 is .dll and EZ3 is VST3 (separate system folder by default).
