Ezel Brings Superior Riding To Standard

Ezel superior rides in Standard, lots of other card reveals and the final Zero rank reward card leaves me jaw dropped in this week's Tuesday news recap.

Some thoughts after playtesting D Ezel: Ezel's superior ride is actually very well-designed and balanced than some people give credits for. Yes, third turn persona is scary on paper, but when going second against stride decks (Chronojet and Messiah licking the chops) and other Meta decks (like Willista and Gandiva etc) that unlocks its full potential when opponent is at G3, going second and superior-riding can be fatal at times. Sometimes I have to give up superior ride just to avoid full-power strides and meta decks going ham even before my third turn. Thus, I believe this deck truly shines when players can calm assess the situation and know when is the best timing to rush. Cadewalla, Cairbre, Turnarr, Teithafallt (DBT11 G2 cycle card) and Sajess (Festival 2023 G3 cycle card) are great candidates when building Ezels and I find them work great with what the deck trying to accomplish (early rush+ order advantage+ strong persona turn)

@@lucyan1142 Trigger(16) : 2 Vanilla Critical triggers+4 effect Crit+3 Effect Front (you need shield and fronts do wonders for early rushing) +2 effect draws+2 vanilla heals+ effect heal (+15000 when facing crit+1) +effect heal (+10000 when facing higher grade vanguard)+OT of your choice (I am running Valnot for flexibility and multi-attacking potential) Order (3)s: 2 ezel orders+1 gratias (this can be substituted for 3rd ezel order, but you need as much safety net for persona turn as possible) G0 (1): 1 Kryph G1 (11): 1 Gareth + 4 Dindrane +2 Silverfang witch+4 PG G2 (13): 2 Beaumain+2 Cairbre (search for persona copy or fills up board)+2 Cadwalla (clears the RG circle while searches)+2 Turnarr (additional CC [you need these] whiles adds soul and clears circles) +2 Sacrosanct Dragon (great synergy with Ezel and very versatile)+3 Teithafallt (fills board when used a normal order this turn+huge power) G3 (6): 4 Ezel+2 Sajess (free SC+ huge power against damage triggers) Notice that G2 has many 2-ofs that is because this deck allows you to take full advantage of the abundant generic Keter support so your build can be tool-boxy. Depends on your preference, you can add or cut cards in that section as you like. This deck is actually very consistent, powerful without being "glass-canon", but you must be careful when to rush and know how to respond when going against Stride decks and decks like Gandiva, Willista that goes ham when opposing G3 is in play.

If you went first against a stride deck whats the reason not to rush them? they’ll be on g1 while you’re on g3 and you’ll persona ride before they even get a chance to stride? Isn’t Ezel like a good counter to chrono?

​@@samanderson1188 that's only if you go first as ezel. Op was giving a scenario wherr they go second as ezel. Since they'd hit g2 first, they'd also hit g3 first and thus enable stride one turn earlier than usual.

It's an option. It's not like you're obligated to superior ride every time. Depending on the state of the game, superior riding can still be beneficial even if the opponent is playing a Stride deck or a go 2nd deck. You could finish the game on the very turn you superior ride if you went 2nd and managed to push the opponent to 3 dmg on your g1 turn. Even if ya don't finish em, you'd still have an advantage due to how you've put em in a very awkward position with very lil resources left for their stride turn.

I agree with you that FRs are getting better, but that improvement is basically just them putting stuff over the gross frames so at this point why are we still getting FRs and not just going back to SPs if they're just gonna hide the frame anyway lol

I sincerely despise the Superior Ride mechanic as is Needs more restrictions. Such as not allowing Persona Ride the following turn, or better require a Counter Blast so one can actually counter the play the stupid thing.

I agree that the deck has great synergy with many existing generic Keter supports (I posted a detailed sample decklist in my comment above), not certain about Meta but definitely consistent and has enough back-up plan without being "glass-canon"
