As a fellow speedrunners I really do appreciate the hardware breakdown even if I'm already aware of it for what's needed. Although I'll add something like Pokemon where they require everything to be on official hardware and I believe don't even allow emulator at least for the older Generations it's worth pointing out how much you're paying to do a speed run because they won't let you do that.

I think they do allow emulators but they’re separate categories. If you’re a serious runner you have to play on official hardware… which sucks but is the case for most games but capturing GBA/DS games can be a major pain in the ass

@EZScapeSpeedruns True, although I think Gen 1 uses a separate site since I couldn't find it on SRC and I believe that the generation that requires official Hardware only for the most part. Also at some point do you plan to do something breaking down your FMA runs? Can't remember if you've done that before or not but if you have it's probably been a couple years

@@mageius there's a special emulator to download for gen 1 runs, it's totally allowed, from src "The only allowed emulator is the latest release of Gambatte-Speedrun (currently r717) with a GBC bios image. Other versions of Gambatte (e.g. Retroarch, BizHawk, etc.) are banned. All other emulators are banned."

Jesus, no route 101/103 encounters into a 5% tackle miss into a 3% corruption? Even with the Pooch crit (~6%) that was still pretty incredible luck all around. Easily could've been sub 1:30, very good run for time invested.

Yeah I was honestly not expecting all of that to happen. I had a whole game plan for learning and refining the rest of the run over the course of a few weeks and then just out of nowhere this run happened. Not super happy with the execution, but on that note I’m retiring😂

The way simulated rolls work seems really interesting. Like, i feel like on 16 HP its actually worth going for the attack, because the NPC needs to hit 2 max damage rock tombs in a row effectively thanks to the sim roll. Assuming i understand that correctly

@ The constant ads got the game very memed upon and the attention the memes got likely cause some people to download and buy stuff in the game just because why not. The people making the ads likely do a lot of research to know which channels viewers are most likely to be these people so they can make a business off of that

Genuine question, and I may have gotten something wrong along the way, but, what's the point of this speedrun? Don't get me wrong, all the tech is cool and whoever figured this endgame glitch is a witch/wizard, but having to rely on a 1/32 chance at the very end, to be able to finish the run, sounds like pure misery

Not 100% certain because I know this from emerald kaizo rather than vanilla (but they AI isn't changed afaik) but rock tomb being discouraged has nothing to do with it being inaccurate, it's just that emerald's AI penalises speed reducing moves if the AI Pokémon already outspeeds

Why not backup your save file from your cart? Also hard modding a gamecube is super easy with picoboot, no reason to pay exorbitant prices for actionreplay or gameboy player disc

2 reasons. I like the novelty of performing these glitches/tricks on original hardware and the leaderboards are split based on console and emulator. So for my run to be in contention with other runners I would also need to be playing on console… even though I rarely submit my runs it’s still important to me that they are verifiable.

@@EZScapeSpeedruns the reason for my confusion is that it would seem like the GC is already doing HW-emulation and then you are using unofficial 3rd party player/emulator via the Game Shark to play the game (and removing the black borders, input on screen etc). And then on top the hoops of using your preferred input, hd output and recording

The GameBoy Player is not emulation, the internal hardware is actual GB/GBA hardware. Everything else mentioned in the hardware section is just the method of displaying the video, which has nothing to do with how the game on the cart is ran.
