A video documenting the overhaul and upgrading of the easyloader would be interesting to see 😃

Ian, any and all video that you can provide will be much appreciated by the rest of us, Ezyloader owners. You are right about VERY little maintenance info. Last year at this time, I had all 3 cylinders resealed. Mine is a 1999 model and the cylinder seals were shot. I have never replaced bearings, but then I only lift individual hives. Appreciate any and all info you provide. Thank you!

Tell us where and when you bought it, why, did you consider any other variants, price, mainteinance. Have you seen self-made things like that or interesting modifications? This is a very well know problem. I have had 3 loader and they have all had this problem. On my newest loader the triangle had serious cracks after only part of the first season used (3 months) I replaced the triangle with a new one shipped from Australia and I noticed cracks started up again this year . This is something that the manufacturer needs to redesign before someone gets hurt or worse! This is unacceptable.
@russellkoopman30043 жыл бұрын
If that think broke while lifting 4 or 5 deeps full of honey it could make quite a mess and someone could get hurt for sure.

Ian, you have brought up a topic that few have dared thread. I am 40 years at this and have amassed a fair bit of equipment. To say manufacturers of equipment for our industry give poor information in their manuals, electrical and engineering drawings is an understatement!

There are manuals for combines dating back 40 years that have more precise exact information than our modern day bee equipment does , maybe because it’s simply simple

You're absolutely correct that this is the best time to get that repair out of the way. I would try to add some gussets and a wrap around piece of steel to reinforce that pivot. It looks like that is the weak point. The wiring in the arm is probably elevator cable that is fine stranded. Thanks for the video!!!

Wow So Glad You caught this before it got me any worse or broke during your busy season. Also reason very little information is because they want you to buy a new one not rebuild yourself. Hope to watch your progress. Peace from WV USA

Hi Ian Shame I'm not closer 🇬🇧 Cutting back and replating / welding the boom assembly with the appropriate welding rods is a nice job, all the best with the repair
@ke6gwf3 жыл бұрын
Looks like a job I would enjoy lol I don't know your welding background or training, but a lot of people don't know how to safely repair cracks, and since if that breaks it could cause injuries as well as shut the job down, I will say something! In order to get a repair that holds, the entire crack needs to be ground out full depth in a vee shape, basically beveling each side back at a 45 degree angle. Then you take a mig or small diameter rod and make a small root pass that ties the inner edges of the metal together, and then continue layering small passes in, alternating sides, so a cross section would look like a bunch of straws laid in straight and parallel. Then you can do a weave pass on the top. The end result needs to be full penetration for the full thickness of the original metal, with no voids, so each bead has full penetration into the base metal as well as the bead next to it. This will give you basically the same strength as the original metal. If you try to do it with just a single large bead, it won't be able to get full penetration on all parts and will thus be weaker than the original metal, and since the factory metal is cracking, a weak weld is certain to crack, and since the heat of the welding effects the strength and brittleness of the metal, it will probably crack worse than it is now. Once you gouge out and layer in the cracks, adding some gusset plates or doubler plates to add strength may be good, but if you add them over poorly repaired cracks there is a good chance it will just get worse. It may also need the cracked section to be completely cut out, and have a machinist make up a new section out of thicker steel, or some other more drastic measures since it looks like that piece was underbuilt.

being a farmer, I think I should be able to do that but also being a smart farmer, I think I might get my local professional welder to attempt this job. Its certainly an important fix and i definitely need it done right for exactly the reasons you stated. cheers!

Great video!! Those cracks might be caused by vibrations from driving down the road while folded up. These vibrations would exert maximum stress in the area of the cracks. I am thinking a rubber cushioned support near the elbow would both provide support and dampen the vibrations while driving.

Hey Ian....fittings with paint on them will not take grease...change the zerk fittings...if it still wont take grease...take a plumbers torch...heat the area around the zerk fittings a bit...the grease inside can get very dry over time and as lack of grease things gets worn.... As far as the cracks....get yourself an experienced welder to look at those cracks...I’m sure they can gouge those out with a torch...and weld them back up for you....I’ve had all kinds of things crack -rewelded...but you got to get the guy with the know how....We are all pulling for you sir....

Have you thought of mounting your 2nd Ezyloader on a trailer you could pull with a tractor? I wouldn't think it would be to much of a problem to rig a pigtail for power. Then you would have a loader your could take anywhere without worrying to much about massive ruts.

If I understand how the loader works and I gauge correctly the lever ratio between the boom and the stabilization arms, about 10:1 to 15:1, it looks like that part is constantly cycling a few tons in flex and twist on its two arms while the boom moves about. And here, we're talking 100,000+ cycles in the course of a single year of operation in your yards. Not a mechanical engineer but that's quite a lot of fatigue for mere welds. That piece should probably be a forging rather than a weldment.
