The -111B is not at all worth adding (couldn't effectively fire the AIM-54 at any range), the D-model is a gimmick if they give it AIM-7Gs as an event vehicle, and the -111F would actually be pretty useful given Pave Tack and Mavericks.

I really hope gaijin will give the F-111A it's Aim-9E and Aim-9J Sidewinder missiles that it had irl. During Vietnam in the linebacker raids of 1972 the most common Sidewinders that the F-111A carried for self defense was the Aim-9E and Aim-9J. The F-111A rarely used the Aim-9B.

So, I did some digging to find out the timeline of when which Sidewinders were deployed - it can't get the D model as that's a Navy variant and the 111 here is USAF. However - given it was introduced in the late 60's, it should in all likelihood actually start with the AIM-9E that the 105 upgrades to - still terrible at the tier but slightly better cause you can try and lead it, and upgrade to the AIM-9J (or if implemented N) when you consider that the E was pushed in in the late 60's, with the J in 1972, and that the first F-111 groups to even be operational were in 1968, and in to the early 70's when the J would have become available. And I'm pretty sure that can't possibly be enough to hurt it's BR when on the Arcade side of things it's going to have a BR basically the same as the F-4E which carries 9J's as well as sparrows.

There is actual historical info about this. F-111 of Vietnam era carried AIM-9B, after that switched to AIM-9Js. During Desert Storm F-111F used AIM-9L and AIM-9M. But mainly F-111 didn't carry air-to-air missiles at all, and same for the guns. Its primary weapon always was the bombs.

@@Chastity_Belt Yeah, for whatever reason google fu wasn't working well for me, and info seemed to be chaotic/sketchy at times as to what missiles were used when, especially because a lot of those 'AIM-9Bs' could actually be E/J because they took a lot of them and upgrade them to that model instead of straight building new missiles. But the one consistent that I did know before doing a deeper dive cause a passing familiarity with the aircraft was that yeah - as much as it was designated a fighter, it was really more used like a bomber. With the few references I saw to them being armed with Sidewinders or any other missile being 'tactical' F-111's I believe and of course the 111B that was going to be the Navy's first sweep wing and able to use the AIM-54. Which is also why I'm scratching my head at this things placement cause putting aside the bomb load (cause it doesn't matter much if you can't live long enough to use it) I can't actually see where this is competitive even in Arcade where it's a little more Ace Combat like at that BR range (likely 11 in Arcade) when it's going to see Tomcats and Vipers. Also - if they need an event vehicle, a higher tier British premium, or just another thing to pad the tree since UK is a bit thin at the top and does have a blank space in the bomber line between the Buccaneer and the Tornado it could fill as far as putting the Australian version in game. Or any other nation that it was exported to cause it saves them time, resources, and money (which is why you start to see a lot of duplicates, especially for premiums or rewards).

Im fine with the F-111A only having AIM-9Bs. It's a ground strike aircraft, it shouldn't have competitive AAMs for it's BR. They should be last resort defensive weapons. We've already seen the kind of havoc attackers with powerful missiles have on the game (i.e. Su-25, A-10, A-5C, the harriers, and A-7D).

lolz, I flew the Air Force's simulator at Mountain Home AFB as a high school student back in 1991. It freaked the tour guide out a little bit that a high school student knew how to start the aircraft, set the flaps and brakes, and properly take off in the jet. It was all fun and games until I flew the instrument-only sim into a mountain, tho! :D Remember that the F-111 is a _manual_ swing-wing, not computer controlled like the F-14. I think the only aircraft I love more than the F-111 is the EA-6B Intruder... Stay low. The F-111 pioneered "knap-of-the-earth" terrain following radar. It did it for a reason....

It's those outer wing pylons that are the issue. IRL they could not rotate to stay pointed straight ahead if the wings were swept back, and it would probably offset the CG too much anyway. The F-111 could go pretty fast, but it rarely used the outer wing pylons, only the inner four.

A lot of people are worried about how usable this thing will be in air realistic. Ive played the F105 for awhile now and I have successful games all the time with it. I’m not worried about it. This plane will be awesome. If you find that you are getting killed a lot before being able to reach any bases I’d recommend maybe flying off to the side of the map and staying there for the first 4-5 ish minutes of the match. At 10.3 this will usually be successful, I’d say 70ish percent success rate.

It's very strange that they added weapon options to the F-111A with Mighty Mouse, AGM-12 and M61 cannons under the wings. Because such weapons have never been used on the F-111, on any of its versions actually. Pre-production F-111A prototypes was demonstrated with FFARs, but never with Bullpup missiles and underwing M61s. And the actual production planes never used FFARs at all. Again some gaijin special desing.

The problem is not the outer pylons blocking wing sweep. It's the inner pylons blocking. As for the maneuverability, well the F-111 was initially conceived as a fighter to replace the F-4s in the Navy.

so. pro tip, the outer 2 pylons on the wing are not articulated, you cant sweep if you take bombs therer, you need to ditch fuel thats there to sweep them if you take drop tanks, also with a more "sane" loadout the vark will gladly hit mach-1+ on the deck

good to note that where the bullets from the guns come out doesnt move with the wing sweep, so as you sweep them back the bullets will just spawn out to the sides and forward of where the guns actually are.

The hard points on the real F-111s swivel in order to keep them aligned with the airflow, thereby reducing the potential drag that would be induced. That's why you are limited in wing-sweep (depending on the ordnance).

what do you mean a friendly server? all planes "shine" in no kill servers Only time i'd say that a plane shines in sim is when it is actually good in normal pvp sim servers.
