@@BluegatorProductions dude look at the guidance type of the phoenix has. IOG is inertial onboard guidance. It will continue to guide to where the last known location of the target but it wont actually know until its under 15km. It's also the reason why sometimes you get teamkills if you dont help guide it in, it just locks to whatever radar signature it finds instead of the one you were guiding it to

at the distance I use the phoenix A I think they are a little better because they are lighter

They are, in a testing video I’m sure you can find by looking up aim54c vs aim54a, someone compared the two and the a model is lighter so it accelerates off the rails better and reaches top speed faster. The c does have a higher ping rate on its seeker head but really only helps if you shoot the c from far enough to get up to speed.

Just put the F-14A at 12.7 with 9Ls and the F-14B at 13.0, or nerf their kits, games between the 12.0 to 13.0 br range are decided by wich team has more Tomcats.

F14 isn't overpowered especially the f14B it requires skill plus if you flying straight and not kiss the ground or using the mountains for cover or even know how to notch and flare a aim54 will prob find you

Plus the radar loses lock easily and has been nerfed and bol pods have been nerfed just understand the f14 dominated irl until aim120 existed as well as an other same missile. putting a 4 gen against 5 gen fighters isn’t smart or fixing anything plus the aim54 doesn’t even have it full capabilities as it did irl

It's not 4th gen vs 5th gen, it's the F-14A that is a 4th gen fighting 90% of 3rd gen while the F-14B at 12.7 still gets lots of downtiers and can hold it's own at it's own tier or even in slight uptiers. The F-14A is probably one of the most straight forward, easiest hightier jet, it can be the only true bvr and fox 3 jet in a match, while also being better at turnfighting and faster than most 12.3s. It can carry 6 radar missiles, while almost all other aircraft at the br carry 2, 4 in best case, maybe 6 with the Tornados but they are as nimble as a fcking cruiseship. I have well over 2 K/D on the jets that i really play, i'm almost certain that i could get 3 or even 4 K/D in a Tomcat, there's always atleast two or three dumbasses who eat an AIM-54 at the start of the match.

@@Onezmhu most of the planes that face are 4 gen fighters and the one that aren’t are mig23, phantoms, f5 most other planes are just at .3 or .7 or are just at 11.0 that get up teir to 12.3 witch is bound to happen as like any other battle rating also thats just how most of those jets were designed to carry. the f14 was just a early missile bus

Typically if the closure rate is above 1000 m/s then you're locked on a missile

Well, it was just a preference of mine to play more safely. In many of those moments when I stop guiding the missile, even if it is not locked on its own to the enemy target, there were one or two other F-14s pinging on my RWR. When we launch the missile, it already has a trajectory established towards the target. Even if the radar corrects the trajectory, if they are maneuvering at that point in the game, it means they are already aware of my missiles. So, the chance of them dodging it already goes up to 90% anyway. If the missile hits, regardless of being soft or hard locked, and regardless of whether I guide them or not, it's because the enemy made many mistakes to die to a Phoenix... let's be honest

@@MuhdAriff-kv5zn A variant has a 60% less hit percentage than C variant tho. If he’s dumping them as he is then the weight difference wouldn’t make much of a difference I’d think? Maybe he’d be .04 Mach slower but that’s still 1.40m which is more than good.

You're right, of course-it requires skill, especially since not all Tomcats stay on the battlefield after spamming their Phoenix missiles. But I believe there are aircraft that are naturally overpowered, without needing any skill to play, and they will yield results as a consequence (like A6Ms, F-16s, etc.). Then there are aircraft that are overpowered and require skill to play. Just because something is difficult to play doesn't mean it's not OP, and I say this not just from my experience in War Thunder but in other games as well. Anything that is mastered to the point of using all its capabilities can be a potentially overpowered element

I don't think the BOL has been nerfed. As far as I know, the U.S. Navy only used CHAFF in BOLs. I don't remember if it was due to the inability to carry flares or if flares weren't effective enough to protect a Tomcat. There's a PDF called "Expendable-Countermeasure-Effectiveness-Against" that is a study on the effectiveness of some flares, specifically the BOL. It explains why the BOL loaded with flares is so inefficient on large aircraft (like the F-15, F-14, etc.). Nowadays, there are studies that even question its effectiveness on smaller aircraft like the Gripen. I understand why the best option for the BOL today is to use CHAFF. As for the incapacity of missiles, all missiles that are somewhat stronger in the game have some capability nerfed, whether it's their seeker or flight performance (like the R-27ER/R, AIM-54s, etc.). In War Thunder, the ER has the same effective range as a real-life R-27R, and the Phoenix would hardly make a kill from 90 km away. That's the harsh reality
