I can't get enough of these build videos. I love the way you show the details of the build. I know for a fact that I don't have the patience for this, but I love getting educated. The most building I've done is all of my RC helicopters. I like that building; however, this is on a whole new level. Thank you and keep them coming. Also, why do you use CA and not lock tight on the clevice? Metal to metal I always use blue locktight.

Another excellent walk through my friend. I appreciate seeing your process as it keeps me on track! Hoping you do this with a future build so I can compare notes with my F-14! I just finished the vertical and horizontal stabs, the rewiring of the rear and the reinstall of the power system. Getting close to doing air systems for the landing gear. Always many small details!

Thanks David! The F14 was shipped on Friday! so should be here in about 7-10 days!

I have the BVM PNP 1/5th F18, and I can say the working on a hornet is like being a dentist and proctologist. As Jon shows working on the tail sections and the same issues up in the nose of the plane, just seems different than other models I have built.
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Yea your absolutely right Kelly! The only aircraft I have encountered that are are worse are the smaller scale f15's
@michiganengineer86213 жыл бұрын
I could be misremembering my definitions but this is what I recall as far as the rear control surfaces are concerned. If there is a combination of fixed and movable surfaces (as in the F-18) then the fixed surfaces are called the stabilizers (either V or H) and the movable surfaces are called the rudder or elevator. If the entire assembly is movable then it's simply called the rudder or elevator.
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Any add more confusion to the mix the "elevators" on the f 18 are also mixed with Aileron movement. So......Taileron?
@michiganengineer86213 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc I've usually heard them called "elevons". I'd forgotten that aspect of the F-18 design, it's the normal configuration with delta wing aircraft.
@gryfandjane3 жыл бұрын
Another good one! Didn’t you say that you’re going to set the rudders to toe in during landing?
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Little bit with full flaps. Yes.

So far of what I have seen of this kit, its a great kit that a lot of good engineering was put into it. Its a big bird.... I like the look of the first F18 with the like oblong inlets. Some people dont realize that the F18 actually was a F17.
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Terry. Yea the first one had the round inlets. the super hornet (square intakes) has significantly more lift area so fly's and lands different.
@terryperrott99133 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc you're welcome, the super hornet looks like the Leading Edge Extension ( LEX) is bigger & the wing is really noticeable bigger. Looks like it would land slower than the first one.
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Yea exactly correct. The tail surfaces are larger. Wing area is significantly larger. Much more floaty and definitely lands slower.

One quick question? At what stage is an RC Plane not a hobby anymore? Thy keep on getting bigger and more advanced. At what stage will you be requier to be licenced to fly?
@thelightersideofrc3 жыл бұрын
Every country has its individual rules around this. Most of it is tied to weight of the aircraft and after exceeding that limit special inspections or permits are needed.

I think, you should let the manufacturer know to put an access door where needed in order to make it easy for you to take and install them, let alone take them out for maintenance... I am surprised that they're not doing this. Bad engineering, Not sales friendly!!!! bad bad boys!!!!! NOT NAVY 4 O !!!!
