Enjoyed watching this, but I thought a full lesson would include the review of the 2 previous books. By the time I've gathered all 5 kids, we usually have 24-26 minutes available to go through things. Reading, writing & talking about the books is a lot to fit into that time. Love the F&P LLI program though.

While this is a small group lesson it is not an accurate example of guided reading as defined by Fountas and Pinnell.

Stamps seems to be a participation log of some sort, but I am wondering how she uses that data...perhaps its for in the moment tracking, or maybe she tracks correct/appropriate responses only?

Thanks for sharing. Nice small groups.

This seems appropriate for intervention or low-level readers; however, my [private] school insists I use this technique for all of my students. 80% of my class is reading above or way above grade level. I have been using guided literature circles, with great success, but have been told to stop, because they aren’t “Best Practice.” I’m wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Is this LLI or guided reading? LLI is an intervention that is meant to be done in addition to guided reading within the classroom. The video is strong, but I don't want to confuse my teachers.

I am wondering this myself. I am a para that is supposed to be teaching LLI to a small group of the lowest readers in their classroom, where we have to sit in a corner and be really quiet while the rest of the class is doing reading. I came here because the steps aren't clear on exactly how it's supposed to be done and thought this could help. This does not look like what I'll be doing.

Why is there so much calling on individual students? More students would be engaged if turn & talk were incorporated. This would give the teacher an opportunity to listen in to multiple conversations.

I am wondering if this is LLI lessons. I'm a para and I'm going to be teaching small groups of the lowest readers in a classroom in Fountas and Pinnell LLI lessons. I'm looking for something that will show me the exact steps on what to do with the materials. We will be in a corner where we have to be practically whispering so I'm not sure this is how my groups will go. On top of that the fact that the group in the video knows words like dormant and pre-fixes in the second grade is definitely not what most low reading second graders know. In fact most 3rd graders at level don't. I'm getting second graders who don't know their sight words nor are that proficient in English :/

This is exactly what I thought when I watched this. My highest kids would have trouble with these words. Also, there seem to be no other children in the room at all, meanwhile, my other second graders are all in the same room in other centers and sound like jet engines.

Why did she keep ignoring the the girl with curly hair? She raised her hand for a while....

it's a teacher thing, she knows she's capable, and wants others to share. at 2:20 she does choose her though.

I noticed that, too. She was ignored so many times that she stopped raising her hand...how sad!

Nadiya Alsalman ...I’m a teacher & I give everyone in my small groups equal opportunity to respond and input.

I wondered the same thing! The child appeared to feel intimidated or her confidence level was low.
