Fëanorians | blood // water

Happy Fëanorian Week!
Well… Happy is probably the wrong word 😆
I’ve had the idea for this vid in my head for a while, and Fëanorian Week (hosted at feanorianweek.tumblr.com and also on the tag #feanorianweek on tumblr) seemed like a perfect time to make it happen. The song is about corporate greed, so admittedly not all the lyrics fit. Namely, I think Fëanor’s main flaw was not greed, but pride and paranoia. However, the refrain of “blood in the water” conjured in my head vivid images of the Kinslaying at Alqualondë and again at Sirion, and Maglor’s burned hand dripping blood into the ocean.
I view the song in this video as being from the perspective of Námo reflecting on the Doom of the Noldor. Fëanor and his sons will never be free from the cursed oath they made. Swearing the oath, they set forth “like a lamb to the slaughter,” walking straight to their doom, not realizing the horror of the path they’d started on. After Alqualondë, they may think they can run away from their crimes, but the Oath and the Doom follow them and will always find them and “knock at [their] front door.”

Call me whatever you want, but I totally sympathize to Feanor. His father, the high king of the Noldor, was mercilessly slain by someone who kept spewing out outrageous lies, and then stealing the most sublime treasure that you've made which is arguably more valuable as the one ring. The Valar were incompetent. It would only be rational to pursue the foe that wronged you tremendously. But then again, Feanor did some awful stuff and so did his sons. Imagine forcefully restraining yourself, ignoring the all the painful things that happened to you just so you can fulfill the wishes of the people that holds divine powers who act idly and incompetently.

Suppose Manwë personally went to attack Angband immediately after the darkening of Valinor. Beleriand, Forochel, Eriador, Rhovanion, and Near Harad, at minimum, probably would've all been obliterated. No more Khazad-dûm, no more Blue Mountains, no more mithril mining in Middle-earth, no more Fangorn Forest, no more Tom Bombadil, no more Glittering Caves, no more forest of Lothlórien, probably thousands of species that will nevermore dwell east of Belegaer, etcetera. Pretty much no land of Middle-earth left save Rhûn and Harad. Not to mention the enormous cost of dwarven and elven life and culture as Manwë gambles on whether they'll escape the cataclysm.
