I use a comb to remove duck weed from my tanks. I saw MD Fish Tanks use one years ago and I've done the same ever since.

I watched the same video and used a comb then. Best method ever. I managed to get rid of the duckweed in 5 of my 6 tanks.

I use a skimmer spoon, the one from Asia, not with holes but a spiral like string as a bottom. The smallest babies pass through , and you can easily see the bigger ones. With a bit a patience, and perseverance, you can eliminate duckweed in a few days... (especially if you use a pomp/filter with a skimmer when there is just a few duckweed left) I give most of them to my goldfishes, the rest goes into my garden as fertiliser... happy fish keeping

If you have most of the duckweed out. Get a small plastic cup and a Bucket and if you find small pieces in a tank scoop it up, if you use a cup you can suck the duckweek into it. Do it a couple of weeks and keep checking it after 3 months it is gone. Good luck and great video 🇳🇱

Great video, good to see you showing some of the less fun side of fish keeping. It took me months to get rid of my duck weed, you have to check the tanks everyday and keep pulling it out. Keep up the good work, because duck weed or not your tanks look good. Looking forward to more of your adventures.

I subscribed to your great channel 3 to 4 months ago and I am greatly enjoying it. Your videos are quite inspiring for me. I know the frustration of trying to catch guppies and guppy fry from a duckweed covered tank. They are so curious and fearless and get right in the way, of course, when trying to remove the duckweed. Definitely going to try your removal method. Glad to see Ziggy and Brutus are doing much better. Cheers!

Duckweed... I have the same problem. Much less aquariums, but its on them all! After some time fighting against i just gave up! Its one of those things... "if you cant defeat them, just join them" :) Its now part of my maintenance routine... catch as much as i can on weekends and feed my gold fishes with it! Im trying to see only the good thing of this! Its a way to remove a nice amount of nutrients from those aquariums and good quality food for free! Otherwise we get nightmares every night :) To remove it, i just use my bare hands, using my fingers on a "comb" shape and catch as much as i can. This way i can feel if some fish or shrimp is about to be catch! Cesar

I use a shop-vac. It is a small two gallon capacity vacuum that you can hand carry to the tank. You can lay the wand almost flat above the water and suck up just the duck weed and very little water. The vacuum will shut off when the tank is full. At first I was a little paranoid about sucking up my nano fish but I have found that they avoid the little inverse waterspout that the vac produces. The cool part is that you can control how much you leave in the tank. I do about a 50/50 split. Half the tank is open to light and the other half is shaded with *&%$ weed.
@trevorbergstrom00Ай бұрын
I use a shop vacuum to remove duckweed off the surface of my tanks it gets it all off a ten gallon tank in LITERALLY 30 seconds at most. I use the hardwood floor attachment with bristles so the sucking end doesn't get pulled underwater as hard as it would with no attachment. You have to hold the shop vac tight and hover over the surface just close enough to annihilate the duckweed

I skim the duck weed off the top and throw it in the blender with one whole egg, fresh young nettle and a tablespoon of organic Spirulina. I blend it until it is a smooth paste. I put it on parchment paper using a spatula to make it as thin as possible then into the oven to dry for several hours. The. Shrimp and catfish love the chips! A warning though, the duckweed is not overly pleasant when it is.

It's great when you need it but not fun to remove or when it sticks to you. I have enough to the point some are dying because of lack of nutrients yet I still did NOT want to throw out the healthy duckweed that was used in another, medicated tank.
