I think it also did another important thing personally, it promoted Babymetal alongside two of the biggest Thai artists, in Thailand and then Babymetal helped them with exposure in the world at large. I saw a reaction from a Thai reactor and they were so pleased when they heard Su sing that brief line in Thai. As someone said elsewhere we get a lot of Japanese and Korean music, nice to see Thailand getting some exposure.

I am a Babymetal fan so I like it all. The darker stuff, the happier stuff. I don't care. It's all good to me. Why? Because it's them doing what they want to do. They are expressing themselves, not what they think others want to hear.
@Carl-o6h10 ай бұрын
The reality is, as it has been all along, is that they're doing what Kobametal wants them to do. BABYMETAL is not a band; they're an idol collaboration of singers, dancers, session musicians, song writers and choreographers, all under the control of Kobametal. No standard band unit could possibly do everything that BABYMETAL does and succeed at it. BABYMETAL are like the musical equivalent of Cirque du Soleil.

If you look at Kobametal interviews he has always said he puts himself in their vicinity so he can best understand them and create songs based on what they say and do. Which is why a song like Uki Uki Midnight has mentions of squid, etc. Yes, they were just kids who would not be creating the music and a large part of this structure remained, but he clearly tried to create music 'in their voice' aka based on them. (I don't have to explain Yon No Uta of course). Su-metal already changed some words in Doki Doki Morning on her own initiative, Kobametal lets them add their inputs in the early days and when Su-metal says: I though Divine Attack was a great song and I wanted to write lyrics for it and she did. That means it too was her initiative and was just considered normal in the atmosphere of song creation. Yes, the girls are not in the lead, but Kobametal is much more working like he did with bands than any of those big idol companies. Remember Amuse is a talent agency, not an idols agency. When I say bands, I meant listening to everyone and letting people just do their thing if the results are what he wanted, you can look up some of the first Mikiko interviews or the t-shirt designers round table interview and you will see he often has specific ideas, but if he has no demands, he just lets the people he trusts to do their own thing. When a show has been designed, the executing of the show is very much influenced by the 3 performers (see Singapore behind the scenes in 2012 to get a small glimpse). They are probably even more involved in that part than the music itself. And with a show like Legend M or Legend MM, they are probably even much more involved. So yes, Babymetal in all it's ways still lives somewhere on the fusion of idol and band.

Fantastic! Let me start by saying I love this collab. I've watched it dozens of times since it came out and it has just not grown old. OK, your video here was a phenomenal breakdown of what I've been thinking about ever since my first hearing-two days ago?! Especially everything you articulated about Babymetal. Though you expressed what I was thinking with far more depth and context. You put it so beautifully. I had mentioned in a comment what a joyful sense of nostalgia I got from BM's appearance. As I'll note have many other fans mentioned. But you really described in depth so well the how and why this bodes so well for Babymetal's future. Su, Moa and Momo had the kawaii turned up to 12 and I'm sure at least a few fans dissolved into the rapture as they experienced it. I'll say it again for good measure. This is one of the best collabs I can think of. The Babymetal star power once again will give lesser known artists a take on a bigger stage. While F. Hero has created a beautiful and most generous canvas for all three artists to share with astounding equality. Bravo for your breakdown. Was a thing of true wonder and edification.

Very interesting commentary on this collab in general and on Babymetal's performance/role in particular. I love Babymetal - the old and new 'versions' - to me, MUSIC is LIFE and life well lived must endure, adapt and evolve. Babymetal has endured, adapted and evolved, and they're more popular than ever - for good reason! That said, I have always held that Babymetal must never lose their "kawaii-ness" which has always been a huge part of their charm - so to see this aspect of the band making a comeback is joyful to me!❤❤❤To see Moa-chan and Momoko-chan given their opportunity to shine as superstars in their own right is also sooo satisfying - give me more of moa and momo, motto motto!!! (alliteration overdose there! lol) Looking forward to a very bright future for Babymetalllllll!🌟🌟🌟🤘

3:10 this is Babymetal in general and something I wonder is how much is lost on the cutting room floor, as Kobametal has always said they are always working on new material and have a lot of stuff in their closet that they might develop further (some of which probably ended up in Metalverse). yes to a certain extend it was a return to the past for Babymetal, but I think sonically ... vocals wise we already seemed to have had it with Lil Uzi Vert collab. The extremely catchy lyrics/vocals Notice how Babymetal song on that album, at least on KZbin, had almost as many views as Travis Scott feature, which are 3rd and 4th for the album. I'll admit a better test is Spotify,, where it's more bottom end of mid-tier song, but with how divisive it is (furthest away genre-wise for his existing fans of any song I'm sure), still impressive.

Momoko saved them from retirement. They were only supposed to go as far as their 10th anniversary. That was their orgional goal, but after the tragic events of Mikio Fujioka death. Then Yui leaving, which while not confirmed, likely has a lot to do with her compressed disk injury. Yui has never returned as she had promised all these years later. _____________________________________________ So it is my guess her injury was ongoing & she hasn't fully recovered from it. After Babymetal going as a duo for their 3rd album & tour. It was looking questionable they would continue. Then realized how close Su-Metal came to hanging it up but then came back with something to prove. All of 2023 with the release of "The Other One was a massive success. The album was the most mature and progressive I had seen from them yet. Su-Metal taking her hand into writing territory with Devine Attack, which was brilliant. ________________________________________________ Then their insane 96+ tour dates across the globe & their Legendary performance of Kingslayer with Bring Me The Horizon. I thought no way this is being topped here. Then "Leave It All Behind comes out like Godzilla's winning an oscar!! I knew this could be a turning point for the band. An evolution I have been waiting 13 years to experience. 🤘🦊🌩

"That was their orgional goal, but after the tragic events of Mikio Fujioka death. " It was not. To quote Koba: "The last message at Budokan saying “leave the earth” is something like an announcement to tell the end of “Season 1” of TV dramas. We announced it especially because many fans may be left in limbo whether they can expect the next concerts or not in the current extraordinary situation. We intended to courteously tell that “BABYMETAL is going to take a hiatus for a while”. It is not our usual way and we might not have announced it if the world were in normal situation." - Kobametal, Young Guitar magazine, November 2021 issue. Certainly both Su and Moa needed to decide if they wished to continue with the BABYMETAL project after it became clear that Yui would not be returning, but there was never a set 10 year deadline, just a realization that they would be making some changes. Also, you are guessing about Yui and "her compressed disk injury." The exact nature of her health issues has never been discussed publicly.
@BlazinNSoul10 ай бұрын
@rickwagner- That is true and can be left to interpretation. Here is a bit more from a different interview that expands on Su-Metal's thoughts at the time. Su-Metal: "Actually, we’d already decided about five years ago that we would make the tenth anniversary our goal. When we became a two-member group in 2018." "So we weren’t sure how to proceed, and even wondered if it was right to keep going but decided to carry on until the tenth anniversary. We received some tough feedback from fans at the time." "Which I’m sure came from a place of love for our group. I think it made us stronger, and we gained a lot of confidence. In that, knowing that most people appreciated our music." ________________________________________________________ "Even though our appearance had changed. We took a break because we felt we’d reached our goal, including going through such experiences." "So during my time away from music, at first I was like." “Nope, not gonna listen to metal anymore.” But before I knew it, I was back and singing again." [Laughs] "Probably like how a teenager takes up playing guitar, I found myself singing. So before we realized it, MOAMETAL and I were getting together and dancing again." "So I really enjoyed our first lesson in a while." That could be where some of the confusion was here but the goal was always to get to their 10th anniversary first. The rest only the Fox God knows lol.

@rickwagner- As far as Yui's compressed disk injury, that is a more recent development. It had apparently been leaked from a source close to the group. However, we probably will never know 100% for sure. It's not hard to imagine this, though. As there were some eye withness accounts about the innocent in question. That Yui was injured during a stage fall. Nothing was ever mentioned after that. Yet this is when Babymetal's behavior got weird & changes to their lineup shortly after. ____________________________________________________ Then, the whole announcement of Yui pulling out of their upcoming US tour at the time over heath concerns. Then, the announcement of Metal Galaxy but no mention of Yui. Then shortly after this we get this press release & response from Yui herself. "I am truly sorry for the inconvenience. I have caused so many people due to being absent for an extended period of time. I have mulled over this over and over again, but I have decided to leave Babymetal at this time." "I feel very sorry that my decision will disturb the other members. "Along with so many fans who have supported Babymetal. I am further terribly sorry to sadden the fans who have supported Babymetal. I had the strong desire to appear on stage again." ______________________________________________________ "However, my physical condition is not at its best even now." I also feel that I would like to pursue my dream, one that I have had from a long time ago, of going on my own as Mizuno Yui. I t is these factors that led to my decision." I am thankful for the numerous and precious experiences I was able to have being a part of Babymetal." I always felt day to day that I was truly blessed. The live shows where we all smiled together and became as One were truly happy and enjoyable times. I will do my utmost best to be able to again one day meet all of you as Mizuno Yui." "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the last 8 years." Mizuno Yui

@@BlazinNSoul Yui's stage fall was in March of 2014. She continued to appear with BABYMETAL through the rest of 2014, 2015 and 2016. The first show she missed was 'LEGEND S - BAPTISM XX', in December of 2017. Yes, it's possible that she was badly injured in 2014, and stopped performing in 2017, but I don't have much faith in anonymous sources. Well i don't think we have really talk about Yui , if we like it or not her age was not really an exception to have an Career ending injury or condition.that they had to reconfigure and recover is logical, we mustn't forget how it must have been for the girls. Su was trained tobprotect her younger sisters and Moa had to realize that she couldn't do this for her life. And since both girls depended on each other no one could really do anything without them. Möa is obviouly now much strenger involved in Produktion aspekte. And they have now realized that Babymetal is still a number to be recogniced. The last year with 97 concerts was an nearly impossible scheute and now this Produktion where they experiment with harmonized singing and out of character performances are something New.

Well as F. Hero deckared to appear wuth Babymetal at their concerts made a deep impression. And he knew that the Guitarist of Bodyslam was a well known Babymetal Fan. And Moa already declared that zhey are working on their next Album. They knew that Fans wanted to hear more Moa abd Moa Gates to sing Solo. So they knew Fans would expect mire Moa and Momo. And they tried to integrate Moa, Momo and Su into this song. But I wouldn't expect Black Babymetal a 14 year old gets away if she thinks that her Daddy will Marry her anyway but the meaning changes when 21 and 25 year olds sing this line. I think there might be Intervention from Koba Moa abd Momo. Ans Rad Minipatty would be very unexpected. Wgen Momoko cMe to Sakura Gakuin Moa and Yui had already graduated. But that there are such things expected in their next Album is a well known fact.

Interesting comments as always, even though I don't agree with all of them. Around the release of The Other One-my favourite BM album, the impression given was that there would be a new beginning, a new direction for the idol collaboration. This filled me with excitement. What we now seemingly have, first with Metali and now with Leave It All Behind, is puppet master Kobametal doing a 180: so much for that new direction, eh? Not that a 180 is a bad thing for the majority of the fandom who still like the early more cutesy BM. Personally, I think that expecting women in their mid-20s to go and do that style again is a bit creepy, still, I guess that puppet master Kobametal sees it as the best way forward. It's clear that this latest collab is an attempt by Koba to break into the Thai market; and an attempt by F Hero and Bodyslam to break into the Japanese market: no prize for guessing who's going to be the more successful. IMHO, I feel that this newie would have been far better with just BABYMETAL, F Hero, and the Kami Band: it certainly would have been more of a banger. The banger moments in LIAB are so few and short-the breakdown ludicrously short-that they end up sounding disassociated from the rest of the song. IMHO, BABYMETAL's contribution (basically they own the song) - and the F Hero cameo are what saves this collab. A case could be made for F Hero becomming the fouth member of BABYMETAL!

The BABYMETAL team made it quite clear that 'THE OTHER ONE' was a standalone effort, and they refer to it as a separate concept album. They don't consider it to be the fourth album in the series with 'BABYMETAL', 'Metal Resistance' and 'Metal Galaxy'. That fourth album is still to come.
