Why did the first girl say, "there are lot of countries in Spain....."? My goodness! Spain is a country, but there are many "cities", not countries in Spain.

She means "provinces", which are more or less comparable to the provinces in China or -for instance- the countries of Germany; so her error is less grave than it seems

I believe she is referring to counties as this is the term normally utilised in the states.

You are right that the term "counties" is used in England and USA; but at 17:41 we clearly hear her say "countries" (with an r), referring to regions in Spain and France; in Germany, for instance, the "states" that form this country are called "Laender", which literally means countries. Of course I cannot be absolutely sure but my interpretation is not so far-fetched

Adrian Zondervan maybe it’s just on this show most applicants level of English is at most only at the intermediate level, filled with grammatical and vocabulary mistakes. Simultaneous translation really is difficult and requires wit and expertise. Most of the times their accents is so thick I really find it difficult to comprehend their English, yet I do admire their bravery giving a go at displaying their English skills despite their many flaws. As I live in Hong Kong I doubt most will be as brave as those in mainland, in the end of the day the more they practice the better they will become.

The first applicant's English pronunciation is fine, but she made an error of grammar by saying "I suggest you to "
