dammit..... can't stop exploring this smoker :) this is a little sentimental, my father was a helluva bassist, made his living off this very style and also bebop.....he toured with Teddy Wilson in the early 80's, played with Joe Pass (at our home, jamming), Monty Alexander, Jimmy Witherspoon, and the terrifying Dorothy Donegan, Ethel Ennis. I wish I'd had access to this way before 2003 when the old man passed. Our home was always lit up with Blue Note sides, Modern Jazz Quartet, and much Thelonius and Miles :) I was really lucky but didn't start exploring til now, 58 years later. Quist man you are as encyclopedic as my pappy.... I could call him at 3 AM from 3000 miles away and he'd give me all the chord changes to any song, with embellishments...... awesome while it was here. nice bass part on this- you write it by software, or is it Band in a Box, or....?? NOW how to fit that altered scale stuff in this...... anybody?

one of your most inspiring, man. ONE thing I'm wandering aimlessly about is playing THROUGH chords, TO chords, FROM chords, I mean connecting arpeggios and scales together when certain chords last only 2 seconds :) I'm thinking the thinking doesn't have to be as fast as I think it's gotta be..... dig? thanks tons.

That is cool. Love the sound of the band. Great coming through a good set of earphones.. I love playing with this track. I use economy of motion. This may help somebody. These are my right hand chords. Usually it's easier when beginning a song to just play one chord on 4 beats..unless chords change. First F7( A C Eb F) then Bb7 (keeping F anchored on pinky),( Ab Bb D F). Next.F7 same as first. Next I play Cmin7 for 2 beats ( I use the Eb6 (G Bb C Eb) ..next two beats go back to F7 in root position for 2 beats (FACEb)..Next chord Bb7 as before for four beats. Now here's some really good news. You only move the Bb on the Bb7 to B..thats now a B dim7. (It has everything you need. ( It's stacked minor 3rds) Next back to F7(4beats as usual) Next D7..from F to D is six ascending in the scale F or a minor 3 descending. .So we are now playing 1 to 6..F7 to D7. Good news you change 2 notes to go from F7 to D7. The D7 I like is A C D F#.. Make the Gmin7 as G Bb D F. .. Next it's quite handy to keep the G note anchored and G Bb C E is the C7. The last chords are are F 7 D7 Gmin7 C7..changing the chords every beat..thats almost necessary to use economy of motion...The F is 1, the D is 6, the G is 2 and 5 is C.. So this is a extremely popular turn arround 6 2 5 1.

Hello, I'm a pure blues rock guitar player, and the minor pentatonic scale seems to fit in this but it doesn't sound anything like Jazz! Can anyone suggest me any scales that I might use on this to sound like actual Jazz? Thank you!

I'm new in jazz , can anyone explain to me the chords and theory in this progression ? I know it's a 12 bar blues but am curious the extra chords in it like the use of Bbdim
@clayjohnson26184 жыл бұрын
It's a passing chord, it could be left out but a lot of players like to throw it in for extra color

+Fernando Moreno Fernando Fernando Fernando. please. stop being a hero. Quist jam just jerks around on the guitar and wastes time. if hrs going go make backing tracks. then he should make backing tracks. I don't want to here him jerk off.
@fernandomoreno77538 жыл бұрын
meh I get your point but saying "stop wasting our time" sounded really arrogant like if he owes you a backing track, you could just suggested "could you maybe go straight to the track." or something like that.
