@@williamsherman1942 you do realize majority of the population didn't even own slaves right? Oh but that argument doesn't matter because if they had slaves didn't matter what the actual population felt just the politicians. Slavery is wrong and horrible but if its a main argument then damn people don't know much about anything about history. And if its racism then uhhh yeah.... just look at the treatment of native Americans waaaaay after the Civil War. My point is that slavery as means of saying who is right and wrong is so lopsided. A proper argument is the south had a society run by plantations they had control of everything from press to bribing politicians. But the same could be said by the north own by rich railroad and corporations in textile having many friends in Washington. The top of both sides manipulated there own people to tell them there family was evil because slavery or they were Yankee invaders coming to pillage. Although both were true only to a degree. Yes there was pillaging from the north and the treatment of freedman as less than human but not enslaved but it was not as wide scale as told in the paper. 57% of the confederate army didn't even have slaves. But the papers said they were evil. The American Civil War was nothing but a tragedy of brother being told his brother is evil
