Momota's consistency is admirable. I wish that he can keep it for years. However, in this match, I was more impressed by CTC. In this tournament, he was more in control of the rallies: focused on shot quality & placement, cutted down his unforced mistakes, played patiently and waited for good opportunities to smash. I remembered a while ago, he was smashing too much and losing his stamina. Impressive improvement! Before this match, I though that he would lose the third set by a large margin, which has not been the case (21-18).

He's improved a lot but he needs to come up with a better strategy to win rallies with the likes if Kento Momota. He's doing the running work and his opponents take advantage of that. In time maybe we see him acknowledge that flaw and improve it as he is a really good player with huge potential.

In my opinion, this match was being really succeed for Chou, he had stopped kento a lot about his dropped shot(set3), Chou was careful in every ralley, his stragery was trying to change the direction to the forehand of kento to let him shot, so Chou could defend with his forehand. Kento extremely strong in the forehand shot to the backhand of the enermie, but in this match he couldn't do it. I thought that Chou plan could Be played by others player. So kento momota could stopped being a King anymore

Not wind , more like too much will to put power in the shots to show determination. In other words he was overdoing it as he wanted to inject pace into the game. The only exception for that is when he is forced to play low from deep in the back court. Too much pressure from there and the shot can end up too flat.

You got to have a particularly strong heart to play matches in china. The forever noisy and rowdy chinese fans pose a big distraction to the players as always, especially some raucus or shrill voices that were really nagging and disturbing. Congratulations to Momota! Whenever he chose to smash, he tended to win a point more crisply. He certainly should increase the frequency and intensity of his smashes.

Nice to see Chou Tien Chen as the "runner up" in current era of men's singles. Interesting fact: Chou has a 3-7 record against Lin Dan, but 0-7 against Lee Chong Wei. Lee Chong Wei seems to be able to wreck a lot of the good players of current generation even if he is 8+ years older, but Lin Dan has not aged as well. Unfortunately what this means is that Chou is an inferior player to the previous generation of MS (since he cannot beat LCW in his prime, and Chou is already 29), while Momota has fully been passed the baton. Momota has another gear that he can go to, Chou does not. But he played well this match.

What a fantastic match! I don't know why some people have to bring nationality into this wonderful sport. For example, even Gillian Clark is guilty of this where she kept harping on "This is the 3rd time in history with no Chinese players in the final of China Open" and then there're other commentators here taking a swipe at the fact that there were no Chinese players in the final. Both sentiments are equally ignorant. What difference does it make if there's no Chinese player in the final of China Open or English Player in the final of All England? Absolutely nothing! By all means, cheer and support your player/country but it's totally unnecessary for instance to mention that in the All England Badminton, no English Men's single player has ever won the final since 1938. Just remember that in the four seas we are all brothers!

I think Gill Clark explained at some point that Chou did not want the mental interference of a coach during an actual game, but only some encouragement and support. Its certainly unconventional, but you also have Antonsen who beat Momota WITHOUT a coach... so to what extent is a coach useful?
