Don't get why Maddie was surprised at what happened at the prom, she was all in the planning leading up to it, whole thing was her idea, then she turned shallow again and decided to ditch her real friends go back to an equally shallow cheating ex just for her own vanity, she even said to Cole she wouldn't rat on them for what was going to go down that night. She deserved it, as a wake up call.

Maddie was a terrible friend to Cole. Ignored him at High School, only befriended him because Kane cheated on her with Marissa and was hell bent in getting her revenge by using Cole and his friends to ruin the prom but then decided to go to the prom with her ex when Cole asked her before in which she said yes. I'm actually glad that Cole friendzoned her in the end even though he was in love in her - he did the right decision

Okay. This movie hits home for me for 2 reasons. 1. I felt everything that Cole did even. Though I wasn't really bullied like he was. 2. Sometimes I was tempted to get revenge, but then I remembered the kid bullying me was my best friend. As I grew up (I'm 22 now) I started realizing that events like prom may be popular, but they can also be a waste of time. When dealing with things like this, it's best to just walk away, stop caring what people think and look to a future beyond high school.

this movie feels like its "not another teen movie" but PG and played straight, but idk if its played straight. It's hilarious specifically to have the M&M's just be two girls, not having like dozens of kids watching them, but just have a series of three individual people in a dimly lit hallway, spaced out along the path like NPC's in a quest town waiting to say their line out loud, towards the M&M's and nobody else. None have friends, they just spread exposition

it's like the quintessential bully prank for the boy who gets the girl at the end after either destroying the dance and saving her by knocking out/concussing a bully with one punch, or before he gets superpowers. He either gets the girl or decides, like in this movie, to be just friends climactically at the end. The girl however, is often not the initial girl. In like half of these movies, his best friend gets angry at him for "not seeing what was right in front of him," leading to him romantically rejecting the initial girl. If he ends up with the initial girl, he's childhood friends, if he ends up with the best friend, he's just attracted to her and doesn't really know her (this isn't an iteration of this trope but in freaks and geeks this happens) However, without fail, I don't believe there's ever been an iteration where the initial/ popular girl isn't dating his bully, either sadly watching or standing up for him. This again will usually lead to some kind of physical harassment by the bully at the dance, followed by the kid's strange and dangerous ability to immediately knock someone out with one punch, which seems like a bit of a cop out when the point is that the bully is stronger, I feel like having him get beaten up but do it anyway would be more narratively satisfying, however for a dance scene that would derail the parts after.
