After 25 years of watching I've finally given up on F1 for the joke it's become and have cancelled my satellite television subscription, but I could watch videos like this all day long! ;-)

@ConfiUser38 жыл бұрын
There is a reason why the Q2 tyre is the first stint tyre. It is to create more action in Q3 so the drivers can still go for a qualifying lap instead of staying in the pits because they want to save the tyres for the race. You can see it best in the 2013 season where many midfield teams didn't put a lap in Q3 and instead just came out for an out and in lap. I'm really looking forward to this rule change because it could simulate a tyre war (without a tyre war) and benefit the drivers and teams who understand the rubber xD
@joseph022518 жыл бұрын
+TedDiniMer And also there's the added thing were lets say you set your fastest time in Q3 with your special Q3 only tires you couldn't use them in the race.
@ConfiUser38 жыл бұрын
Absolutely correct :)
@kallo1828 жыл бұрын
+TedDiniMer I just find it all fucking stupid. They should bring all those Tyres like in this Video, but without any rule. Let the Teams and Drivers desite what king of Tyre they want to drive. Like back in the 90s, before 97. They had Hard, Medium, Soft and Super-Soft. And the Drivers could do what they want. If you drive with Hard you need only one Stop. With Medium you need two Stops, and with Soft you need 3 Stops... Every Driver could choose the Tyres what his drivestyle support.
@philippkaufmann88 жыл бұрын
+Karl S. it might seem to be better in the 90s, but this rule is about Strategy and planing the tyre for the week end. So the dominant Teams (Mercedes, Ferrari etc.) can choose an other tyre strategy as a midfielder Team like Sauber or Lotus. I think it brings a lot more space to plan the weekend and make it more interesting. I know it might seem a bit triky in the beginning but after a few races it will be possible to understand a bit more about it. Sry 4 the long Answer
@benjones71588 жыл бұрын
+Karl S. I love that idea. But I'm not convinced Pirelli would allow it. If a team stuffs up its strategy, we'll be seeing tyres blistering and puncturing. That's the last thing Pirelli wants to be advertising. But it'd be entertaining!
@pawriq8 жыл бұрын
Great video. One thing you missed. When the driver didn't get into Q3 his tyres picked by Pirelli for this session can be used in the race.
@yaswanths8 жыл бұрын
+pawriq He covered at 7:48. For my understanding, If you didn't get into Q3 you won't get the tire. Even if you are into Q3 at the end of session that tire has to returned. So in any case you can't use in race the one set aside by pireli.
@palosamo8 жыл бұрын
From the official F1 website: 'Drivers who make it through to Q3 must hand back the set of the softer compound tyres nominated for Q3, and start the race on the tyres with which they set their fastest time in Q2. All other drivers will be able to use the set that is saved for Q3 during the race.'
@snowjix7 жыл бұрын
+palosamo Id say thats pretty convincing, dont you think. :D
@pshores7 жыл бұрын
palosamo if did not make it to Q3, can you start on any tyre or must it still be the tyres used for fastest lap?

@Ofitus218 жыл бұрын
Very very complex. But if you think about it, it is very clever. This will make races very interesting and we might see interesting results because of that
@AndrewLewer908 жыл бұрын
+Ofitus 21 Meh, should have made it 13 sets of tyres, Pirelli to decide what compounds to bring to the race and let the teams and drivers decide which compound out of the three chosen by Pirelli and how many tyres with each compound... Because a race weekend where someone focuses entirely and uses only the Ultra Soft compound would be interesting and totally different from a Hard compound only week end or even a mixed one... Just like it was in the early 2000's
@flyhighpizzapie8 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Henderson Nothing will change. There will be only one optimal strategy per race, just like now. Everyone will use the same tyres all of the time.
@ToCGambler8 жыл бұрын
+flyhighpizzapie Well, not really... Often enough different strategies have the same outcome in terms of laptime and final race time with just a few seconds difference. Now come race day, depending on traffic and Safety Car, teams could risk more by undercutting with the softest compound, meanwhile the one being undercutted is maybe on the hardest or whatever. That will definitely bring more excitement already and a more mixed up grid... Another scenario might be that one stint on the hardest compound can be covered by 1 stint on the softest and 1 additional stint on the medium compound, see where I'm coming from? Hard to explain, just like the actual rule lol
@flyhighpizzapie8 жыл бұрын
+ToCGambler Everyone will use the same tyres. Unless they have a massive issue with one tyre, everyone will use the same tyres. If it was completely open and you could use any of the tyres available, then you might have the possibility of someone running something a bit different but you're limited to three different tyres and everyone will be on exactly the same.
@flyhighpizzapie8 жыл бұрын
+Lewis Mckay That wasn't my prediction, that was Jenson Button's. I agree with him.

Hey, I really enjoy having videos like yours helping me keep track of the different regulations the various series use, and how they affect the teams,divers and public response, it really helps clarify the picture. Please keep doing these, your content is well structured and clear to understand, the animation is simple and clean and really helps keeping track of the data. I would love it if you did a video giving a general overview of all the aspects that are regulated in F1 or explained the logistics behind an event(i just roughly estimated each race has over 830 tires shipped(and they ain't small)) or the process behind a race direction call. Anyway much respect for this vid hope to see more.

the Q2 tyre for the first stint of the race is pretty smart. because cars who didnt get into Q2 so the cars in the back of the grid will start off with fresh tyres. giving them a slight advantage over the rest of the field. Q2 will be a very high risk high reward session. if you make it to Q3 you can go full out. but is it worth going for another hot lap in Q2. i can see this make for interesting practice sessions.

@danielchong50328 жыл бұрын
+Henrix98 that might pretty much accurately describe Singapore tyre choices.
@petev.65988 жыл бұрын
+Henrix98 I think the rule was that those three allocated compounds to a race are always next to each other. So only three possibilities: H-M-S, M-S-SS, S-SS-US. And the last one is available only on street circuits. So, two sets of three compounds from where to choose from for most races. No H-S-US possible.

Now that there's no refueling and only tire stops, it's nice to have three compounds for a better range of aggressive or conservative tire races. The q2 tire rule is probably to level the top 10 with the rest of the field, since the rest of the field is actually travelling a longer distance.

I think the top ten have to start on their fastest Q2 tyres to buck the trend we saw a few years ago of drivers who just 'scrape through' to Q3 opting to not run in the shootout in order to start from say P10 but on a fresh set of options, as it used to be mandatory to start on your fastest (but worn) Q3 set
@TedSchoenling8 жыл бұрын
What will happen is some teams will get it right at the start, others will not. And by the end of the season everybody will have figured out the fastest way and the strategies will largely look the same. This is due to the fact that the cars are too similar due to the tight regulations on the formula. There are a limited number of good solutions and once you go for the optimum solution the choices are narrowed down to 1 or 2... This solves nothing. Thanks FiA for making things more complex for no gain.

Really good video dude. These rules are too complicated.I think they should have to choose 1 compound for qualifying and the race. Softer tyres will go quicker and quali but will require an extra pit stop in the race... It will allow slower teams to grad a headline or two on Saturday :) This is what it was like in the 90s.

The start on Q2 tyre rule is so they run flat out in Q3 for a top 10 shootout, rather that setting two sectors the pitting for the rest of the session and having fresh tyres in the race. Sensible rule really.
