The Race covered a similar season launch event that MotoGP held in Bangkok just a few days ago, and while they too committed the sin of not featuring the actual machinery all that much, there _were_ MotoGP riders doing burnouts on superbikes. At least they had SOME machinery. Even there, though, it isn't unreasonable to wonder why both these series are bothering with something that amounts to little more than a glorified corporate party rather than the more interesting (and less cringe) method of just holding a season launch event at the track _during testing itself._ It sounds and feels like a bunch of execs got together in a smoke-filled room and insisted that F1 needed its own Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Going forward I'd like if they make a week or 2 ahead of the launch where maybe one team could reveal a wing and color choice only, another shows the livery, but not the car. Maybe a few teams will show the full car, and the rest won't exactly show us their final designs, just teasers. All of this before the official reveal. Sort of to get the hype going for this team or that.

Livery launches on old cars is the aspect I hate most of launch season. So making the whole thing be that is really annoying. F1 loves to throw its weight around. If I was F1 I’d tell the teams to bring their new cars, well at least the aero.

I really don't care that they are old cars. For the most part the changes are so minimal that seeing them in testing and not the reveal doesn't really make a difference to me. New regularions though, there I want to see the real/at least close to it ones.

I think it's fun to see the new paint jobs and to see who nails it and who lets the sponsors and suits ruin the design of their own car. But nobody needs 10 videos talking about paint so I'm fine with the teams revealing their liveries all on the same day instead of spreading it out over weeks. Once again in 2025 we have two major manufacturers who own teams who haven't been winning, Renault and Audi, so it's going to be entertaining to see how small they make their own logos on their own cars if they add their logos at all.

I think I’m probably in the minority as I never get excited for the car launch period for one of the reasons you mentioned. Most are show cars and bear little resemblance to the car we will see on track and rarely do many of the teams do anything dramatic with their liveries. I’d be blown away if say Ferrari paints their car yellow for once or Red Bull does something crazy and makes their car silver with blue streaks like their cans so to me this whole period is pointless until the first race so meh 😑
