As a huge fan of the Mercedes brand, words can't express how glad I am that this man presides over the Mercedes F1 team. It's always so reassuring after a bad race weekend when Toto gets interviewed. He'll state that failure is not acceptable and that they'll do everything to get on top of their problems. They always do. The Singapore race weekend was one of these examples. You rock, Toto! :D

Won't lie, I have big respect for Toto because of how he keeps Mercedes competitive, but truth to be told, I still think Ross Brawn is the architect of success behind Mercedes, being the chief of the team starting low in 2010 to being title challengers in 2013 and making sure that at the same time Mercedes has enough time to produce an excellent machine for the new regulations for 2014. I mean, as I said, keeping the team competitive for so many years (2014-2018) is for sure the achievement of Toto, but for me, new big change in regulations (2021?) will be the true test for Toto, if he can make sure that Mercedes will be competitive with the new regulations, then I'll say "You're one of the best Toto", but until then, I have to pay the credit to Ross Brawn (that Toto rarely even mentions, in this podcast not even once) and just say that I respect Toto for what he is doing.
@MercedesAMGF16 жыл бұрын
Toto has always been respectful of Ross and his achievements - we know that he built the foundations of the team we are today, along with Norbert Haug, Bob Bell and many others who are no longer part of the team today. Remember, too, that it is five years since he left the team - and that much has changed in that time. Structures, people, rules in a significant way (2017) - and we have, so far, been fortunate enough to maintain our success. Success is never a story of single individuals, that's simply how we as people like to explain it because it's simpler that way. But it is a true team effort, led from people at the top.
@ExpertPL9996 жыл бұрын
Wow, didn't expect a reply from Mercedes channel :) I totally agree that success is achieved as a team, not an individual (maybe I have put it too simple before), but my point is, in this podcast, there are a lot of statistics that seem to be attributed to Toto (nothing strange about that, he was and is Team Principal at the time of successes after all), but I, looking from the outside (not being part of Mercedes team), feel like I don't have enough evidence to back it up (not saying someone should provide it, just that there still wasn't a situation that would prove it to me). You are right about 2017 rules, but I feel that those changes were only partial (like 2019 ones) while 2014 and 2021 seem to be "the major" ones. If Toto will hold the team together and competitive enough for it to still be title-challenging (not necessarily title-winning) after 2020, then I'll consider him one of the best. It's not that Toto proved not to be one of the best, it's just that, in my opinion, he still didn't have the chance to prove it. Hopefully he will, making sure that Mercedes will be long-lived team in F1 like Ferrari and McLaren and not temporal one with one admirable title-streak. Not to mention that that wish comes from Ferrari/Red Bull supporter, that prefers tight title-fights instead of long periods of one team's domination :P

He said that it was a standard practice to move staff around there was no particular reason Nico thought Lewis had a better team.
@MercedesAMGF16 жыл бұрын
We explained that at the time - to stop the garage splitting into "camps" between the drivers, so we mixed up some (not all) of the garage crew. We also said that we underestimated the impact this had on Lewis at the time - not in terms of reliability, because the crews are all working to the same high standards (and as a team on every pit stop) - but the pyschological impact of who you're looking at when you drive out of the garage. So we learned from that, improved and carried on. It was done with the team in mind first and foremost - not to advantage, or disadvantage, anybody.

Should of asked him why Ocon doesn't have a drive next year, and why Merc didn't buy out Marussia when they could easily afford it.
@MercedesAMGF16 жыл бұрын
1) Because agreements were reneged on before the summer break and we have two excellent drivers under contract at Mercedes. 2) Because it would have made no financial sense to do so - we don't believe there was a solid business case for running a junior team.
@deadjumpers876 жыл бұрын
Then why even take on junior drivers at all if you aren't going to support them later on? Wehrlein lost his drive, now Ocon is out of a seat despite his great performances and what is Russell going to do in 2019 if he wins GP2 this year? take a year off?
