They want someone like Mark was to Seb or Daniel was to Max (even though it was supposed to be the other way around in his rookie season), a great driver who can win races but is not really a threat. Kvyat and Gasly are treated equally in Alpha Tauri and that's what makes the dynamics immediately different. And btw, Alex is getting more chances this season than Pierre ever had.

What makes Gasly's win all the more emotional, was that Anthoine Hubert told him to "Prove Them Wrong" when Gasly got unceremoniously demoted from Red Bull. Now a year on from Anthoine's death, Gasly's done exactly that. No wonder he broke down on the podium.

It is never a small feat to win in a midfield team but Gasly pit at the right moment and got lucky with Lewis fumbling with the closed pitlane. Vettel's o.g. 2008 victory was much more impressive since it was basically on almost pure pace, even if the top teams messed up quali with the wrong tires. Vettel still had the best pace in the race regardless, which can seldom happen these days with any of the midfield cars be it dry or wet. The Toro Rosso was arguably the 3. best car in 2008 even though they couldn't always put it together like the 5 bigger teams.
