I did some condenser paper models, but never had the patience or skills to do micro-film. I used to go to the Cleveland Indoor Contest, held in the Public Auditorium with a 170 ft. ceiling, and there were amazing flights of over an hour in there (for guys flying microfilm craft .. HLG were capable of really long flights as well .. even the old Ranger 21 class was well attended back then) . Thanks for bringing back some old memories of good times ...

A pesar que la pregunta de 2245cristian tiene 7 meses, igual va la respuesta que puede servir a muchos: Alphonse Penaud fue el primero que hizo volar con éxito un modelo mas pesado que el aire y propulsado por una hélice de empuje (pusher) que giraba por la fuerza de una banda de goma enrollada. Llamó a su modelo "Planophore" y realizó el primer vuelo en Tuileries, París, Francia el 18 de Agosto de 1871. El Planophore recorrió una distancia de 181 piés (55,16 mt.) en 11 segundos.

Elástico TAN de 1 mm x 0,8 mm aprox, segun el criterio del competidor y el desarrollo del modelo. (temperatura, humedad, antiguedad del elástico, lubricación, vueltas en el eje, luz solar, torque, tensión, largo, tipo de ganchos en cada extremo y peso, son algunos factores que determinan que "elástico-motor" usar.)

Google f1d plans. There are many plans on planes like this and similar planes. This particular plane is the F1D, which is one of the hardest ones to build. A simpler one is a limited pennyplane which is a much heavier and sturdy airplane which got me started. There are plenty of articles on the websites that pop up which tell you about the hobby and how to get started.

behold the forerunners of todays indoor slow-flyers like the night vapor... I used to love reading up on this class of competition in my grand-dads AMA 'model aviation' magazines... These are quite difficult and time consuming to build and set up. The class is similar to outdoor free-flight, where the contest involves "duration", or who can stay aloft the longest. In the late 80's, someone made one RC with a single channel rudder actuated by heating a nichrome wire circuit pulling surface...

These planes are called F1d's. They are very lightweight and delicate aircraft sometimes taking weeks to make. The wings are made of very low density balsa wood (hard to find in stores) and the covering is a very thin film. The covering that looks like bubble is micro film, which is made by pouring a solution over a tank of water until a film develops. The film is removed by a frame and let cured until it is ready to cover the wing frame.

They use balsa wood, in a really strong, thin and lights weight stick pieces. This models (with no rubber) weights no more than 2 grams...!!

A few kits available. Hand-launch planes are easy to construct using balsa and basswood. special rubber-bands at hobby shops used for propulsion, but these little guys can be thrown by hand and stay aloft for a long period. Rudder steers the plane, wing lifts and stabilizer keeps it horizontal. Think LIGHTweight like balsa, carbon fiber, plastic straws, etc.

Dlocalhost, propellers don't keep planes aloft. Air keeps planes aloft. The plane is light enough that it will probably glide very far without the propeller. The propeller only provides a little extra lift. (throwing it would probably tear the plane apart)

Se usa Polymicro, Y2K o microfilm. Todos materiales muy livianos. El microfilm ya casi no se usa.

Cordial saludo, buen trabajo pero que consideraciones hay que tener en cuenta para hacer uno, en este momento estoy construyendo uno pero de forma empirica pues no consigo tutoriales , calculos, etc... solo se consigue de fabrica. El mio lo estoy haciendo a base de papel celofan y madera balsa cuadrada de 5 x 5 mm y la embergadura es de 57cm y el largo de 48cm
