Thank you so much for the wonderful flashback of Ambroid and my model building as a kid!

Thanks, having crashed lots of planes as a kid, and having used both Ambroid and Duco, I thought that Ambroid was better because it's more flexible, whereas Duco was clearly more brittle, so I'm an Ambroid fan. However, that comment only applies to 1960's Duco, I have no idea what the current version is like, if I ever run out of Ambroid I'll find out!

Great model as always. And a great flight.

I love your work Larry! It has seemed to me for many years that this type of aircraft requires “The patience of Job“, and “the hands of a Surgeon” to build, but, because of all your efforts, many like me can at least vicariously enjoy the hobby as you actually experience it! I have tried building these little guys many times but the results have been poor enough that I have to relegate them to a private closet! However, my wish is to one day see some of the actual construction in “real time”, i.e., hands moving and parts actually going together, just to convince myself that it really humanly possible. I know that is a lot to ask, and that videoing while actually putting pieces together would be a major distraction from the concentration and focus that is required to do the task! Maybe someday? Will be watching for part 2. Al in Ann Arbor,

Thanks Al, yes this hobby definitely takes patience, the F1R is very delicate and it's easy to break things! However I have to say I really enjoy the flying, I started with microfilm so this takes me back. Good suggestion about showing some construction in real time, I think you'll be happy with the next two parts because I do a little 'live' construction - in the prop video (part 2), I know a lot of people have problems rolling tissue tubes, so I role one 'live' on video; in the wing video (part 3), I know that wrapping balsa curves can be tricky, so I wrap a round wingtip 'live' again, so you can see it done. There are also a couple of other things I show live, I'll keep that in mind as I finish them.

Ha! I still have half a tube of Ambroid! I only use it to smear on my fingers to smell and peel off later. I'm 10 years old again.

Love your videos. Ambroid, can I ask where your getting it? I would love to watch you build a Comet Taylorcraft 54" wing span in an electric, or rubber RC version. You made my day seeing this video pop up.

I have a couple of tubes of Ambroid that I bought about 20 years ago before it disappeared, it's not available now to my knowledge. However, Duco and Sig-ment are similar and you can use those; I have some comments on glue in Part 3. Yes I like that Comet kit, I've thought about building a jumbo, but it's kind of big for the tiny field I'm flying in, and right now no one seems to care if I fly things around 30", might say something if I show up with a gigantic rubber job! (but I still might do it eventually)

Great bird! Do you have plans for it?
@domoremath4 жыл бұрын
Yes I have plans, but they'd have to be checked - when I pdf them, the quality is a little lower and the size can change a little.

@@domoremath I would really like to take a crack at building this as my first F1R. I just bought a tail boom form from iffs.

@@joshuaterrazas2545 Give it a go, it's fun to fly, I have plans I can probably post at hip pockets or my university site, let me see.

@@domoremath That would be so great! Can you send me a link? I just got some wood from iffs also. Some nice .008 and some .010 ready for building :]
@stevew13814 жыл бұрын
Hi, is there a preferred position for the glued seam on the model; top, bottom or side? Thanks in advance, Steve
@domoremath4 жыл бұрын
Usually the seams are put on the bottom, just for looks really, but in this case I liked the .008 stamp and so I put the seam on the top just so that the number was visible. But that's only if it's dead straight - if the boom is warped a little one way or another, then orient it so that the warp gives left turn or negative incidence, so you're using it to your advantage.

Hola me gusta este estilo de avión, me puedes enviar los materiales en español

I want to see you put RC in that!
@domoremath4 жыл бұрын
I've played with some indoor RC and it's do-able, however I think it's probably better to just learn how to steer with a pole, which is what I'm doing now.
@thomasryan53944 жыл бұрын
A pole? I might have done well in maths if I had a prof 👨🏫 like you!
