The reason on why you were struggling with those little bosses is because of ur units aoe. Yes full aoe is great but this game does not give full aoe units alot of damage you need more damage dealing units that dont have full aoe in order to not struggle with those bosses. My recommendation would be too have atleast 1 really strong dps unit in ur team and put his attack type on strong so that you wont struggle
