Why doesn't linux has a scandisk utility by default that also does surface testing?

Spatry, I think you are still in here so I have a question. I have been using Ubuntu on and off since 7.04. Have also used Ubuntu Studio and Mint. I think I might be willing to dive further into Linux.What distro should I try next if I want to get a little more into it?

I switched back to Windows be cause of Ubuntu, do you know any other basic distro?

Uninstall any fake flash drives immediately, if not sooner, or before. I am richard uninstallman! ;o)
