This is model soaring in its purest form. F3-RES is such a great idea. Back around 1980 the Austrians with their high-speed composite designs and the Canadians with their 36 volt winch, which I saw at their practice sessions before the 1981 World F3B champs, did something nasty to RC soaring; F3J was meant to counteract that somewhat, being a purely thermal soaring class, but human powered launching is just as brutal as winches, resulting in factory-built composite ships. It's taken all this time to get back to what A/2 (F1A) meant before RC. OK, DLG is good, but expensive. Here finally is something simple, technical and inexpensive, which you can build yourself. Restricting launch to hi-starts is brilliant. Mark Drela showed the way with Allegro Lite, and now we have F3-RES.
