One of the reasons why a favor the F-16 over the JAS-39 Gripen For the Philippine Air Force Multi-role fighter (MRF) program is how much they share commonality in terms of weapon systems and sensors. Though Lockheed Martin packaged is more expensive then Saab's offer I think the price increased is justify since it covers maintenance which will not only benefit the Air Force and the F-16 in the long run. But also the FA-50 since it was jointly developed with LM help which could also support the FA-50 on KAI behalf additionally the PAF could help KAI certify the FA-50 with weapon systems not yet used like the SDB and Anti-ship missiles like the Penguin or Harpoon.

not happening. PH doesn't need american presence. If it did, it would be in the middle of Russian and American tensions. Either way, if PH gets attacked America has carriers out on sea to respond by the treaty. No need for bases there. The way I see it, their president is trying to rebuild the country and its economy. If it chooses a side, it would hinder that progress as it would be difficult to export goods on other countries if there is tension. By not choosing a side, the Philippines can focus in rebuilding

Karen Actually they do now. Lockheed acquired General Dynamics, which was the original builder of the F-16. So now the F-16 is owned and being built by Lockheed.

FA-50 Block 20 is on the plan. Poland ordered 48 jets few weeks ago. Block20 has AESA Radar system and much long ranged Air to Air missiles.

@Navvy The filipino pilots(FA-50) pull up at a way steeper angle than the American pilots in the f-16 because in the philippines pilots are only trained on land airfeilds where there are more likely than not trees and terain after takeoff especially in the philippines while the american pilots visiting are trained from aircraft carriers where they do not need to worry about terain in the open ocean.
