My installer is definitely an sq guy, trying to sell me all of that “Focal” component stuff, sometimes I hate going in his store because sometimes when he’s talking, I’m sitting there thinking “I don’t care nothing about what he’s talking about” but he does good work. SQL here for sure. As long as my ear drums are vibrating, the rear view is bouncing, and there’s no distortion, it’s good. I don’t need to be immersed and I know the bass is coming from the back because I can see the woofers sitting under my back seat. Love the content man!

I built an SQ system with nothing but Skar. Granted it took a lot more than it did when i used JL. I ended up adding 4 extra speakers, another amp, and fabricating a spot for the speakers to look factory. I used 4 Skar VXF 12s in a custom box on 2 SKv2-3500 amps. It sound a lot better than when I used JL but it took a lot more.

This man is so right I'm a Sql guy that put up spl number once you start doing 150+ db it's not fun driving around like that because it's hurt you ears after long periods of time I turn my amp down if I'm not metering i preferably like the 140-145 range it perfect for daily driving

Yeah that descibes me for sure as a SQL guy. I love a good balance but I treasure the loud bass. I kinda like knowing what's in the trunk too, don't get me wrong I don't want to sacrifice my mids and highs so I got some components in the from and coaxials in the rear, but it comes down to just wanting to hear the music when the bass still hit low and loud. I mean think about it, you pull upo at the intersection as a SPL guy and you just piss people off, but as a SQL guy you might at least get a few head nods when they realize you're bumping scarface and nipsey or something

i got SPL system hitting 158db at 36hz and 156 at 15hz. but it turned the car into a rolling sub system. i got amazing doors to match, but its unable to reach a sound quality level sound. so for my next system, I'm going with a set of components and maybe coaxial for the rear, and at least an 8" in the stock sub location, or 2 12s with 2krms amp if the 8 isn't enough. I believe I'm in the SQL crowd, i can rattle house walls like nobodies business right now but i want to cruise and have 4 seats again lol!

I did 153 at 55 ans 156 at 72 lol.. extended cab truck with 3/4 wall and 15’s.. so yeah I was in the 70’s for top spl.. but I could run around all day on a daily driver at 150 and over with normal music.. and 150 plays you don’t hear from blocks you hear from miles away.. all daily guys are sql.. they just don’t know it.. they want it to hit as hard as possible while still enjoying the music.. spl is a 5second burp.. tbh.. I was underpowered back then. I got my best spl on a 30second run of a mystical track on a dynamic burst… I could run single tones but couldn’t get more then 153 that way.. I could leak to little over 156 on dynamic.. I was the only guy in comps playing real music over single tones lol.. but my first ever sweep on meter I peaked at 77hrz and 154.p.. I could play that peak all day at tone and only hit 152.. running jl slash amps I couldn’t get the sustained peaks to run normal spl comps.. I needed that split second dynamic burst from a sweep or a track that hit those tones. Most spl guys would likely come across similar results.. hitting 146 on tone with 2x 12’s but during the right track hit 149 on a dynamic leak.. That is just how amps work.. burps are good if you got the power.. but finding a real that works with the resonance of the vehicle and peaks just right in dynamic burst is where an sql guy can excel and compete with smaller spl guys.. at least 20 years ago anyways.. shit today we got single sub 8th order boxes hitting 160 on burps lol..

Ha I'm evolving into SQL. for years I drove in silence. then I got a comp vr 10, and now I just ordered a 12 kicker q... Based on how satisfied I was with 1 10 @ 350 ish watts, I don't know what Ima do with a 12 more than double but heh, This hobby seems to never end. I think a lot of spl guys started off like me, and just never got to that point where they were satisfied with how loud they were... I don't see myself pumping thousands into a system just to play frequency tones though.....I'll probably stop at that 12 square.....maybe a 2nd later down the line......maybe....

My first install cost me $250 it was a sealed 12 inch , 6 months later i had a 12 inch on a custom box, and my friend said it was near the level of his trucks dual 15 setup.. I never expected to get that loud so quick, but i had gotten sweet deals on the equipment. My friend also started simple but then quickly wanted it louder. Its an addiction man. Now i have a 15 on a nice box, just slowly upgrading door speakers, to sound not just louder but better.

Every time you double the wattage you add 3 decibels. Every time you double the cone area, you add 3 decibels. When you double the number of identical subwoofers and upgrade the amp or wiring the subs at half the impedance of your existing setup, you would add 6 decibels. An increase of 10dB is perceived as twice as loud.

I could build a hell of a system with 2500 probably 2000 if I do it right ..and build and install everything myself and have good sound quality and get loud 140s to 150 but it would take me about a month to put it all together. And have a 40 hour work week each week ..on top of working on the system is why it would take me that long but yeah I'm a sql guy myself I got me comp q 15 because of your videos and I always loved kicker subs ..kicker for life

Yeah I'm finishing up a system that cost me about $1800 (and an additional ~$800 once I get a better battery and a HO Alternator), and it was full sound deadening, all new speaker wiring to the doors+tweeters, a full component set with 4 mids and 2 tweeters, a 4x100 watt 4 channel amp, a 4200 watt subwoofer amp, paired with a Skar VXF-15 with a big 3 and 1/0 power wire, new pioneer head unit, and custom cutout wooden speaker mounting rings since the old ones were too small. Took me about a month to install everything neatly working 40 hour weeks. I still haven't built my own box (using a Skar prefab ATM) because it's cold outside lol. I honestly regret what I bought though because I think I could've gotten a LOT more bang for my buck if I had just been a little smarter about what I was buying. Like, instead of a vxf 1t, I should've gotten 2 svr 12s or something like that. And instead of buying a $250 amp for my mids that has 100 watts per-50 watts speaker, I should've just gotten a cheaper 50 watt per channel amp. I don't even push the speakers at all when I listen anyways. Dang, this has turned into an essay. Sorry lol.
