FAA Just Revealed NEW Starship Launch Date! SpaceX in BIG TROUBLE? Musk Reacts...
After a period of pause, SpaceX has finally broken the quiet regarding the launch date for its fifth Starship test flight.
Unfortunately, it’s not good news for space enthusiasts, as the Starship flight has been delayed even further, now pushed back to the end of November. And it’s all due to the FAA's roadblock.
So what’s the reason?
How angry was Elon Musk?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech:
FAA Just Revealed NEW Starship Launch Date! SpaceX in BIG TROUBLE? Musk Reacts...
In recent weeks, engineers at the Starship launch facility in South Texas have upgraded the launch pad to carry out an ambitious plan: to catch the Super Heavy booster when it returns to Earth. This booster, larger than a Boeing 747, will land vertically using its Raptor engines, slowing down to almost a hover before being caught by two mechanical arms on the launch pad.
This will be the first time SpaceX tests the technique of catching a rocket mid-air. Although the Super Heavy booster is designed for reuse, like the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket, the recovery method differs significantly. Instead of landing on an offshore platform hundreds of miles away, SpaceX aims to return the booster directly to the launch pad. If successful, this technique would simplify the process and significantly reduce operational costs.
FAA Just Revealed NEW Starship Launch Date! SpaceX in BIG TROUBLE? Musk Reacts...
Everything would be fine if SpaceX were granted permission by the FAA to launch on the scheduled date. But, in fact, the FAA not only dismissed launch dates in late September or early October but delayed the flight further, not until at least November.
"It's understandable that such a unique operation would require additional time to analyze from a licensing perspective," SpaceX said. "Unfortunately, instead of focusing resources on critical safety analysis and collaborating on rational safeguards to protect both the public and the environment, the licensing process has been repeatedly derailed by issues ranging from the frivolous to the patently absurd."
Elon Musk, who has repeatedly placed his trust in earlier launch schedules, has grown very impatient with the latest news from the FAA. He shared related tweets, particularly a SpaceX tweet emphasizing the importance of Starship for future missions. “Starship's fully and rapidly reusable design will exponentially increase humanity’s ability to access and utilize outer space. To unlock its full potential, and do it rapidly enough to meet commitments to national priorities like NASA’s Artemis program, Starships need to fly”.

@@jcdeb4131 You're correct, however, the federal 'aviation' agency. does not cover space in its' agency 'name', like, for example, THE SPACE FORCE. Aviation includes the activities surrounding mechanical flight and the aircraft industry. Aircraft includes fixed-wing and rotary-wing types, morphable wings, wing-less lifting bodies, as well as lighter-than-air craft such as hot air balloons and airships. Aviation began in the 18th century with the development of the hot air balloon, an apparatus capable of atmospheric displacement through buoyancy. Some of the most significant advancements in aviation technology came with the controlled gliding flying of Otto Lilienthal in 1896; then a large step in significance came with the construction of the first powered airplane by the Wright brothers in the early 1900s. Since that time, aviation has been technologically revolutionized by the introduction of the jet which permitted a major form of transport throughout the world. Wikipedia

No problem. Critical safety analysis is important. Given the disastrous and dangerous failure of NASA & Boeing's Starliner, stranding 2 astronauts and risking the ISS and all souls onboard, SpaceX will need to delay all NASA and DOD launches until SpaceX conducts a critical safety analysis of all NASA and DOD contractors to make sure their payloads are safe to fly on SpaceX rockets. Until further notice, SpaceX will require safety reports from each and every NASA supplier and subcontractor (Rocketdyne, that's you!), so SpaceX engineers can do the analysis. Sorry, guys. SpaceX just wants to be extra safe. You can ask the Russians and Blue Origin to help you. China? India, perhaps?
