What I love about Steve is that he combines jazz, country, blues, rock and classical guitar into a voice that is his alone.

Never seen this rendition before. The song refers to soldiers who participated in the Vietnam war. Starting with The Yes Album ( the first Steve Howe Yes album ) and up to Tormato, Yes was a magical force - the most creative and interesting music was released by them during this period. It's worth knowing. The band was populated by virtuosos, and it's no small feat to have them each reign it in and let the song dictate their contributions to it. Steve Howe might be my favorite guitarist, because he is a virtuoso, but writes such good parts and they are so original and easily recognizable as HIM. This live rendition is really great, glad i saw it.

Steve Howe isn't underrated, Yes is just not as well known. Steve Howe won the voted "Best Overall Guitarist" in Guitar Player magazine five years in a row (77-81). In 1981 he was the first rock guitar player inducted into the Guitar Player Hall of Fame-and no-longer eligible for player of the year as a HoF alumnist, effectively freeing up other players to win. Yes IS a rabbit hole of excellent musicianship and composition-with influences pulled from rock, classical, country, folk, jazz, reggae, and more. This is just the beginning for you.

@@ZealZaddy I would say Yes is not well known by anyone born in 1990 and beyond, Yes was one of the biggest if not the biggest act of the 70s filling huge stadiums across the USA and the world, and became massive again in 1983 with the release of 90125. Like you said Steve won best guitarist in most guitar/ music magazines for years in the 70s and again in the 80s again with Asia

Yes were a very vibrant and adventurous band in the 70's even scary and dangerous at times balanced with summer sweet vibes. They have been my favourite band for 45 years and I thonk they will remain so as no one has come close to them since.

Yes is a deep rabbit hole. Of the bands you mentioned, Yes were contemporaries of Deep Purple and The Doors. They preceded The Eagles and AC/DC.

Yours is No Disgrace was recorded in 1971. So, technically, AC/DC and the Eagles sound like YES. I can’t believe I just wrote that!

The sound quality of the Yessongs video, and, for that matter, the Yessongs album, if sub-standard, especially to the recorded live performances we can enjoy today. But YiND live is a treat due to the added intro and extended guitar jam in the middle, plus it is a bit uptempo from the studio recording, and all together the effect is really high-energy. Howe joining the band made Yes. There are a lot of guys who can play lead guitar really well. There is a much smaller group of guitartists who are fabulous composers. Howe worked beautifully with lead singer Jon Anderson in the composition of much of the greatest music of Yes. If you continue to react to Yes, and if you haven't already noticed this, Howe eshews just about all of the standard blues runs and licks the dominated the British rock scene back in those days. His melodies, runs, chords, hell, everything about his playing is just different than the norm, very unique and fresh. And it somehow blends in perfectly with what the rest of the band is doing. Underrated? More like forgotten by the current generation of young rock music lovers. Howe was voted five years in a row "World's Most Versitile Guitarist" by the readers of Guitar Player magazine. I think the rules of that competition wouldn't allow for more than five wins so that other guitarists would have a chance to win. You seem thrilled by great guitar work. Anderson is no longer with the band (a somewhat long story), so the songwriting it nowhere near the same calibre these days, but Howe is still the lead guitarist for Yes, which is still releasing new albums and touring in 2024. He doesn't look the same over 50 years later, but still plays brilliantly.

The beginning of the this isn't part of the song, they were just sort of jamming, then went into the song. When Steve plays in sort of a messy way, it's usually on purpose to create the mood and energy he wants, and in this case I'm guessing he was sort of ad-libbing the solo. He's a creative genius, nobody really like him at all. Yes were very influential on a lot of bands like Rush and Dream Theater.

I wouldn’t say that I associate Yes with The Doors or Eagles, more like King Crimson, ELP, Rush, Dream Theater, Tool maybe …you know, mainstream Prog much more than Psychodelia, but that’s just me. Acase can certainly be made for bands like The Doors, Pink Floyd, even the Beach Boys, which seems a really weird thing to say. Funny.

In 1968, two London bands were formed that would amaze: Led Zeppelin & YES. Led Zeppelin exploded onto the scene with its hard rocking electrified blues sound _with an English twist_ finding massive appeal right away. Im so jealous of you just discovering the best band ever. Steve Howe is extremely underrated. He is obviously known among the prog crowd but he doesnt come up in the mainstream conversations like he should. The intro riff that they go back to in the middle that you say sounds like AC/DC was actually inspired by the theme song to the American western TV show Bonanza lol.

Nothing like a live performance and even with the poor acoustics and the limited recording equipment at the time the talent of the band shines through. The album version is off the charts and so much cleaner and well defined, but from this performance you get the picture.

My Goodness!!! You are really really good!!! You keeping up with one of the best lead guitar players in Rock n' Roll history....very impressive! Now do you master 16 string instruments, too like Steve Howe? lol I just looked it up and masters 16 string instrument .....Steve Howe, plays a variety of string instruments, including electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and other instruments: Electric guitars: Howe has a collection of over 20 guitars, including Gibson ES-175D, Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster, Gibson ES140, and Epiphone acoustic. He also used a Gibson BR-9 steel guitar and a Danelectro Coral Sitar guitar on some tracks. Acoustic guitars: Howe uses a 1953 Martin 00-18 and other acoustic guitars. Other instruments: Howe also plays the laúd, a Spanish lute, and the Portuguese vahalia, a 12-stringed instrument. He also used a Danelectro Coral Sitar guitar on some tracks. Howe's style is influenced by jazz, classical, and rock, and he's known for his melodic and left-field playing.

Steve Howe's *currently* (and criminally) underrated. However, BITD, he won _Guitar Player Magazine's_ Best Overall Guitarist award Five years in a row. So, they *created* something called Guitar Player Magazine's Hall of Fame, stuck him in it, and took him out of the running for future awards. The only other members so far are Eric Johnson and Steve Morse. Here's a video of Steve talking about the composition of _Yours_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWLZp2ajpNeprpI It's very, very cool.

I liked how this guy understood a lot of stuff that was going on but to understand Steve how you should see who all his influences were when your naming bands that came after who do you think influence too? Also, this song was written in the autumn of 1970 and released in 71 way before AC/DC. I can’t name anybody that put all these different styles together back then like Steve. By far the most all around guitar player I had heard. I know a guy that could play Satriani and Vai at the speed they played I electric on my acoustic double neck. Yet I gave him yes album, close to the edge and Relayer and his words exactly were. I can’t understand what this guy is doing.

Yes, Steve is underrated -- even tho he won the Best Overall Guitarist in Guitar Player magazine FIVE years straight!! -- beating out the likes of Jimmy Page and Van Halen!! -- he's still rarely mentioned by the media. (and this Best Overall Guitarist category capped the individual categories of Rock, Metal, Country, Jazz, R&B and Classical - so ALL guitarists from the whole music spectrum were considered for this award!! - and Steve was the one that got it 5x) For a cleaner - and far superior performance you need to listen to the studio version. The only bands that were influences of Yes were from the 60s like the Beatles and the prog legends King Crimson. Yes developed a sound that was completely their own. I get that you do reactions to live performances but, when doing live reactions to Yes you will miss the nuances to the music writing and unique studio techniques, their masterful transitions. And worse is that the recording/video quality of most of their 70's performances were substandard. Anyway, thanks for your positive reaction to this wondrous band.
