"Using a public commode as a private abode" Y'know, being homeless has been a personal fear of mine for ages (as it is for many - if not most - people). It probably exceeds fear of being incarcerated. One deals with the constant struggle to survive (e.g. food, maintaining health and hygiene, acclimatizing to different seasons). Then of course you have challenging elements on the street: being shoulder to shoulder with extremely mentally ill/intoxicated people who have nothing to lose and could snap at anyone in a split second. One will witness this even as a non-homeless bystander. The more we read about the street drug pipeline/mental health issue, the more sense we can make when considering indifference to such environments. Imagine choosing a sleeping area with the pungent aroma of filth. Without being removed from reality (or being desensitized by the fact you're no longer part of it) it's unimaginable.
@abyssiccoronation Жыл бұрын
@@sadenbrick There's a lot of caveats to such statement, because what we think others should have is not always synonymous with what they want. Unless these documentary journalists are extremely subjective, a lion's share (80%+) of the "unhoused" I've seen interviewed are either stuck on drugs, mentally sick, or both. Regardless of how far gone they are - they're still adults. The shelter solution has been a complete failure, not because of lack of resources, but because many feel they're better off being exposed to the street's hazards than that of a shelter. What about bringing back the public clinic (which was done away with in the 1980s)? One of the primary reasons this resource was discontinued was because of the prospect of tort abuse: As wards of the state, such individuals would have access to opportunistic attorneys who could make a bundle. Imagine a lawsuit over urine stains on a toilet seat - yep, it's possible. And the judgment will be everyone's tax dollars at work. Quite frankly there's no reasonable solution, and as of late, the "Alt-Left" has turned these individuals into shock troops for their personal agenda.
@abyssiccoronation Жыл бұрын
@@sadenbrick Absolutely, a good deal of the unhoused are not mentally ill or addicted and have just fallen on hard times. But they're a world apart from the 80% who are intent on blaming others, class guilt-tripping, and (most of all) creating an enabling system which duplicates their plight rather than removes it. In comparison, it's like student loan borrowers who took out a busload of debt on an unmarketable degree (and indulgent living expenses) and now want the taxpayer to bail them out. What fair is that to those of us who made good judgment despite struggling, climbed the ladder with no string pulling, and now have something to show for it? Contrary to popular belief, the "1%" is not footing the bill for either endowment - it's the new "lower-lower-lower" middle class.

I learned real fast, local governments do not like old people, disabled people, and homeless people. In 2020 at the height of Covid-19 when you could not get into a doctor's office. I had 3 strokes and a small heart attack, all at the same time. I was 57 years old. Everything I worked for since I was 13 years old, was now gone. Covid-19 already killed my industrial electrical contracts and opportunities. The strokes compounded all of it. I had these issues while I was out of state in North Carolina, but I am from Florida. I borrowed money for a train ticket and went back to Florida at Christmas time. No truck and no car, but I had my legs. So I will walk, after all Jesus walked. People have walked since Adam and Eve. In 3-1/2 years I had 4 visits to the emergency room. Had 3 strokes, twice internal bleeding and recently a major heart attacks and a Stent procedure. Young people work in government and are extremely arrogant, not compassionate towards others. I thank my Lord Christ Jesus for the education I received. An education that would have not been possible without the trials and tribulations.

Can't believe it. I used those Venice Beach bathrooms many times and never knew people could live in them. But then again I was a regular at that beach from 1983 - 87, and again off and on during the 90s. Last time I was their 2015. The homeless crisis wasn't that bad then, compared to now. Got to be the drugs that make someone comfortable living like that. It's very sad times. Make one feel like the end is near.

Please make sure this place gets cleaned up this year so I can now come over and enjoy the beach. I don't understand why they refuse free shelter.
@chestertaylor6257 Жыл бұрын
Not all shelters are available for people. I use to stay at a shelter in Kansas city Missouri and they put up a sign saying that they were full when they were not. I was told that they had to do that per the health department because of co-vid. So they may not be refusing help or shelter it just might not be there to help them. Why do you go ask them why they are living in the bathrooms.
@kayfurlano1462 Жыл бұрын
Most can’t follow the rules and they wouldn’t be abl to do drugs.

@Kay Furlano plus a lot of them can't be helped because they are so mentally gone that they don't understand how to follow the rules. I just left the Community refresh spot and there was a black lady down there walking up and down the street with her pants down below her knees.
