She has lived a life filled with men, s3x & drugs. Her lifestyle has certainly taken a toll on her. But I suspect she has always been a bit alternative (even as a teenager).

As someone who grew up in L.A. ,I used to associate the beach with the warm sun, and sand castles, and walking to the snack shop with your friend that your mom let come with you.. as well as just eating the packed lunch and listening to music. Being in Idaho now and watching footage like this - the beach makes me think of angry, d-bag, attention-seeking losers playing victim trying to call the shots that they never earned.
