This disturbed me immensely when i saw it on re-release as a teenage boy in the 90s. Just gruesome and dark. It is a masterpiece in Italian horror.

In my 80s childhood this was a movie that haunted me so much, made me feel much unprotected, felt so ghastly yet so convincing in its unavoidable horror that I protected myself in somehow keeping it away from me. Yet deep down Zombi 2 (1979) had such an underlying quality and artistry that I returned to it many years later. The Soundtrack of Fabio Frizzi, particulary this main title carries me back to these feelings.

Fulci deserved much more credit for his films. Zombi 2, City of the Living Dead and The Beyond feature imagery that is iconic and unforgettable. The zombie vs shark fight is one of the greatest scenes in movie history, for god's sake. Oh, and if you want to check out a non-horror piece by the man, watch Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man! Just woke up from a dream in which I was on a train with only me and one other person, and also a corpse laying on the floor between the seats, being eaten by large flies. Before I woke up I was being chased by one of the flies, and this song was playing in my head during the chase. It's been too many years since I've revisited this flick. The zombies in this film are some of the most frightening ones to ever be seen on film. Their dead, even outright absent, stare as they shamble along, aware of your presence yet not paying any attention to you that would acknowledge your existence, all the while moving along at a slow, shambling pace, really sells the notion of just how horrifying they can truly be. They move along at a slow pace like they're in no big rush, because they don't that they don't have to be in a big rush to catch you. Almost like they know there's nothing you can do to save yourself from them, but you don't have the benefit of knowing that fact yourself yet.

Music for me in general is hard to describe the effect it has on me and this theme is no different, but I'll try. First, this theme has a driving quality to it -- the beat does it -- and it has the feeling of a marching or breathing machine that keeps steadily going and doesn't stop (zombies at their slow pace just have no quit in them: even death can't stop them). The chords that form the foundation of the melody just seem to suggest doom -- I don't have any other way of putting it. It's like, no matter how far you run, even if you go leave the island and escape across the ocean, your strongest efforts won't save you: the zombies will eventually get you, like Death itself, which will catch all of us eventually. Sorry to be so gloomy, but the music brought it out of me! ;) Anyway, great theme and great score 10/10

It's because it's true horror it forces you to watch a long drawn out scene that make you uncomfortable. No camera trickey just pure unsettling scenes. I was born 89 and I watched this around the same age of 8 my mates parents had divorced and his dad was a huge horror buff collecting all the video nastys and this was one of the first horrors I watched I always remembered the eye splinter and the zombie at the start and of one the bridge at the end but most of all I remembered it had an iconic theme song I had to come to KZbin to play it and I don't regret it. Technically the movie isn't Zombi 2. Its just Zombi, but for some reason it was released under both titles. I rented Zombie and Zombi 2 at a local rental place back in 1995 thinking Zombi 2 was a sequel. I liked the movie but was disappointed when they were identical movies and no sequel
@roskiart87503 жыл бұрын
The reason is very simple. It was(not sure if still is) legal to market a movie as a sequel to an unrelated production in Italy. Zombi is also Zombi 2 because "Zombi" is the name they gave to a re-edited cut to Dawn of the Dead there and Zombi 2 was marketed as the "sequel" to that. It's Zombi internationally because you can't pull that trick elsewhere
